10 notable restaurant and bar closures in Dallas-Fort Worth, Oct-Nov 2021

Without much warning, some of our favorite Dallas-Fort Worth restaurants and bars have closed.

Fortunately, some others are moving instead of closing them down for good. Here is their latest list:

Luna’s Tortillas y Hacienda restaurant in Dallas is closed for Halloween. The Luna family have been making tortillas in Dallas for 97 years and have served 13 restaurant meals. While the restaurant didn’t survive a few years with shaky sales, the tortilla factory will remain: “I will definitely not let it die out two years after reaching 100 years,” says owner and patriarch Fernando Luna.

Anvil Pub in Deep Ellum made a quick close on Halloween. Just a few hours in advance, the owners invited the fans to a final evening for pub dinners and beer. The bar was popular for its irreverent brunch and vegan menu.

Cosmic Cafe, one of the most famous vegetarian restaurants in Dallas, closed after the service on October 17, 2021. Building owner Praveen Sachdev says the restaurant is now becoming a “silent space” for yoga and meditation where he says don’t focus on money. “

Go Fish Poke closed in Plano. The company has another restaurant that is still open at the Preston Center in Dallas.

Lada, an enchilada store started by a gourmet chef, has closed in north Dallas. Regular chef Michael Ehlert left in the summer of 2021 and Lada only lasted a few months longer. Less than a year old, the restaurant is part of a new development in Hillcrest and Arapaho that some have called “mini Klyde Warren Park”.

Closing soon

Snowbaby, an ice cream shop in Lakewood Dallas, is closing on November 21, 2021. Owner Chrissy Kuo loved making healthy desserts for the neighborhood, but she says she needs a break from the rigors of a small business.

The Bavarian Grill in Plano serves its last Jägerschnitzel in the current restaurant on the day before Thanksgiving. Owner Jürgen Mahneke is relocating his German restaurant half a mile away to a former Golden Corral that he has bought. The Bavarian Grill had been open in its original location on West Parker Road in Plano for 28 years.

Fred’s Texas Cafe in Fort Worth will close on December 31, 2021 after 43 years. A new burger shop from Fred’s is scheduled to open in spring 2022. The new restaurant is not a replacement, precisely because it is 11 km away. But it’s good to see that the longtime Fort Worth restaurant lives in a new neighborhood.

The Ten Bells Tavern in Oak Cliff will be ready by January 31, 2022. The land becomes an apartment complex. Owner Meri Dahlke has found a new home just one block down on West 8th Street, where she plans to open Ten Bells 2.0 in 2022. The fish and chips, the cats and all the other colorful things that we love about Ten Bells are also moving to the new location.

Temporary closure

Alexandre’s, a gay bar in Dallas, has been closed since October 27, 2021 due to a fire outside the bar, reports Eater. The bar will be reopening soon – and the Instagram page will keep regulars updated.
