15 Fantastic Sandwiches in Dallas
The average American eats nearly 200 sandwiches each year. As one of America’s most popular lunch dishes, National Sandwich Day on November 3rd gives us a good reason to celebrate some of the city’s amazing sandwiches. While it’s virtually impossible to list every type of sandwich and great place to get them in Dallas, here are a few notable ones that you should check out.
Sandwich Hag
1902 S. Lamar St.
Bread at Sandwich Hag
Beth Rankin
Sandwich Hag serves up some legitimate sandwich options ($ 10.75- $ 11.75) made from pork, sausage, tofu, chicken, and vegetables. Their Nem Nướng Bánh Mì is a bestseller with their pork house sausage, which is a little sweet with lots of garlic and a little sticky. A hearty sausage comes with house cucumbers, vegetables and a garlic aioli spread, all on a freshly baked Vietnamese baguette. And we love their no assholes rule and believe that everyone should strive to be nice, cool, and friendly. So check them out next time you’re in Deep Ellum.
Loro Asian Smokehouse & Bar

Loro’s oak smoked beef brisket sandwich.
Angie Quebedeaux
Loro Asian Smokehouse & Bar recently opened in Dallas, a partnership between Franklin’s Barbecue and Uchi (both based in Austin). It’s a gastronomic combination that you should try. Fair warning: you will need a couple of napkins on hand to master your Oak Smoked Beef Brisket Sandwich. Topped with crispy papaya salad, peanuts, chilli aioli and Thai herbs on a fluffy bun, this melt-in-the-mouth sandwich is one of the best non-traditional barbecue brisket sandwiches to hit your lips this year.
Alamo Club
1919 Greenville Avenue.
The breakfast sandwich
Angie Quebedeaux
The breakfast sandwich ($ 12) at the Alamo Club is an example of what appears to be a simple sandwich, but it beats anything you can find in a drive-through and is well worth sitting down and enjoying every delicious bite. It is served with several slices of smoked pecan bacon, two eggs (cooked to order), crispy hash browns (McDs style), shredded longhorn cheddar cheese, and jalapeño mayo. This sandwich is only served on weekends but is the perfect combination of hearty, crispy and spicy and will take your Sunday funday to a whole new level.

The Broadstreet Cheesesteak at Big Tony’s

While there are plenty of places in Dallas that serve a great cheesesteak sandwich, the cheesesteaks at Big Tony’s West Philly Cheesesteaks are darn good. Big Tony’s commitment to quality includes buying his bread from Amoroso’s in Philadelphia, which is considered the hallmark of a true Philly cheesesteak. The Broadstreet Cheesesteak comes with steak, mushrooms, banana peppers, sauteed onions, jalapeños and cheese. The banana peppers add an unexpected, delicious touch to the sandwich that could easily get it into the cheesesteak Hall of Fame (if there is such a thing).

At Jonathon’s Diner, there’s a good chance you need a jaw extender to get this delicious club sandwich ($ 12) in your mouth. It is served with ham, turkey, bacon, Swiss, American, LTO, avocado, egg and mayo on sourdough bread and is a touch of flavor.
Humble Rogers

The Cuban sandwich

Modest Rogers recently opened in Uptown, and owner and chef Modesto “Mo” Rodriguez serves his authentic Cuban sandwich ($ 15) only on their lunch menu, and it’s one that is made with heart and soul. It features sliced roast pork, ham, Swiss cheese, gherkins, and a garlic and mustard aioli on their freshly grilled Cuban bread. The bread alone makes you wish you had ordered two. Add in all of those delicious fresh layers of meat and cheese and you would be insane NOT to order two of them.

The French dip

For those who don’t get to downtown Dallas on a regular basis, do yourself a favor and make the trip specially for the French bath ($ 13) at The Commissary. The fresh French bun is loaded with grated beef, caramelized onions, and Dijon mustard. But what makes this version fantastic and unique is its “jus” for dipping, actually Phở broth, which is earthy, aromatic and spicy.

Classic Italian combination sandwich

Most of you already know how great the pizza crust is at Pie Tap and their new spin-off PT Neighborhood Pizzeria. So it’s no wonder they also make their own sourdough bread for these sandwiches, and they managed to make their Classic Italian Combo Sandwich ($ 12) with prosciutto, salami, hot peppers, ham, fontina, hot peppers, Calabrian chilli aioli, tomato fill, salad and Italian dressing. And we can confirm that it is really great.
The Free Man Cajun Café & Lounge

Muffuletta at The Free Man
Lauren Drewes Daniels
The muffuletta ($ 12.95) at The Free Man Cajun Café & Lounge is something special. Just make sure you are hungry when you order it. Taken together, a whole is the size of a human head. The bread is firm enough to stay crispy despite the moist olive salad. And the sandwich is believed to get better when the flavors mix, so do yourself a favor and consider ordering an additional one for the next day.
Supplies for brown bags
150 Turtle Creek Boulevard, Suite 202
Brown Bag Provisions was voted the best sandwich shop for 2021 by the Observer. And we can say that The Charles Pastrami ($ 13) is Instagram food porn. The good news is that it tastes as good as it looks. They cover the meat with brown sugar, mustard, salt, juniper, cumin, fennel, garlic and pepper for seven days. It is then rubbed with spices again, smoked, and then cooked sous vide for two days. You glaze it with miso glaze and serve it the traditional Reuben style on marbled rye, garnished with horseradish cucumber, Swiss cheese and wholegrain mustard.
Delicious tails

Shrimp po-boy

The po-boys at Tasty Tails are overflowing with your choice of shrimp, catfish, oysters, or soft-shelled crabs ($ 11.99 – $ 20.99). They get their French bread from Gambino’s Bakery or Leidenheimer Bread in New Orleans. If you’ve never had the chance to get French bread from Gambino or Leidenheimer, do yourself a favor and get here ASAP. Po-Boys can be ordered as half (8 “) or whole (12”). And if you’re in the area between 11:30 am and 3:00 pm during the week, you can get a 6-inch butt-boy stuffed with fried shrimp or catfish and fries or their delicious gumbo for $ 9.99.
Delicatessen News

The Ruben at Deli News

Dallas has several great delis that serve great sandwiches. But Deli News is a Dallas institution to be reckoned with. And their Reuben sandwich ($ 14.99) is hard to beat. Corned beef piled high on their freshly grilled New York rye. A hill of sauerkraut is topped with melted Swiss cheese and served open, as is customary in New York.
Top round
4800 Bryan Street
The horse and hole sandwich

Top Round has taken the Dallas roast beef sandwich market by storm since it opened a few years ago. Their sandwiches are served with USDA Choice Top Rounds, which are slow toasted daily, and jus is made in house. They offer five options on their menu, but because we are devourers on punishment and love the scorching effect of horseradish, we tend to go for the Horse and Hole or the Beef on Weck.
Latin delicacies

Tomato and Mozzarella Supreme at Latin Deli
Nick Rallo
There is nothing like the taste of a Caprese dish on a hot summer’s day with fresh tomato slices and creamy buffalo mozzarella with fragrant sprigs of basil. At Latin Deli, they take all of these ingredients and load them onto their fresh ciabatta bread to make one of the best vegetarian sandwiches in Dallas. The Tomato and Mozzarella Supreme has creamy avocado, pickled onions, and sauteed jalapeños. The combination of all of these flavors will transform even the most die-hard carnivore.

Every sandwich has a story to tell, especially the Cardi B at Invasion.
Alison McLean
Nashville hot chicken sandwiches recently exploded in the DFW area. We recently featured the 10 best hot chicken sandwiches in Dallas, and there are some really hot and delicious options out there. But the Cardi B during invasion of East Dallas keeps us up at night.
