2 Of The Most Dangerous Highways In The US Go Through DFW Area, Study Says – CBS Dallas / Fort Worth
FORT VALUE (CBSDFW.COM) – A new ranking of the country’s most dangerous highways found that two of the top five pass directly through Dallas-Fort Worth.
Texas-based insurance comparison website The Zebra compiled the list based on death data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

“The study really does align with a trend we’re seeing across the country that motorists are just being more ruthless on the roads,” said Danielle Marchell, a licensed insurance agent and spokeswoman for The Zebra. “They assume that fewer people drive across the country and are therefore a little more willing to accelerate and accelerate on the streets.”
In 2019, 197 people were killed on I-35, the equivalent of more than 12 deaths per 100 miles.
The freeway runs through several high-traffic areas in Texas and serves as the main route for 18 cyclists.
“Unfortunately, most of the fatalities on I-35 occurred in the Dallas and Austin areas,” Marchell said.
Motorists say that all construction projects don’t help either.

“That leads to mergers and separations and all kinds of alternative routes, and unfortunately that creates danger as a by-product,” said driver Tim Billcorder.
Alcohol and drug use, speed and even anger in traffic also play a role.
“The things that annoyed Texas drivers the most on the streets were distracted driving, clipping, and then rear-end,” Marchell said.
Triple AAA predicts 3.6 million Texans will travel by car over Thanksgiving, which could exacerbate existing hazards. This is why some drivers plan to avoid the highways altogether.
“There are more accidents during the holiday season and all, so I think flying is safer,” said Kirsten of Brownsville.
If you are planning on going out on the streets to meet friends or family, it is important to be extra careful in order to make I-20, I-35 and all streets safer for everyone.
“That may sound like cliché, but just be mindful of your surroundings and really watch out for those speed limits,” Marchell said. “Make sure you’re not breaking any law.”
