20 Things To Do In Dallas This Holiday SZN (12/13-12/15)
For the next two weeks in Dallas, you can warm up the neighborhood, drink the tree, watch Hanukkah save Harry Christmas, and more.
Merry Almost Christmas, Dallas, if you celebrate it.
We only have a few weeks until Santa Claus visits and we know you have to be nervous to get in the Christmas spirit. Or if you don’t care, there is still never a bad time for some food, music and a drink. In addition to our regular activities, we’ve rounded up some of the best holiday-themed events happening over the next two weeks. Think of it like an advent calendar – except with a lot more work.
Many of these events are donated to charity. If it’s not on the blurb, see the additional information at the link to find out if / how you can contribute to a good cause at the events you’re interested in.
Happy Holidays!
Monday (12/13)
Warm up the neighborhood at Trees
Get in the real Christmas spirit – bring a blanket or warm clothing item to this party to donate to Genesis. DJ Crash and Deep Ellum Radio will bring the tunes while Amor y Queso will bring the food. There will also be a raffle in which the proceeds will be donated to Foundation 45.
Tuesday (12/14)
Homestead for the Holidays in Grandscape Texas
The Colony Wine Bar Patio is a great place to sip and make handicrafts like flower arrangements, water marbling, and calligraphy ornaments. There is also live music and there is a free drink with every ticket.
Wednesday (12/15)
Robert Earl Keens Road To Christmas at the House of Blues
This Americana musician, who grew up in Kerville, was inducted into the Texas Heritage Songwriters Hall of Fame. Waylon Payne from Nashville will perform at his side.
Ugly sweater party at Sidecar Social
Dig the ugliest sweater out of your closet – the ugliest sweater will get a gift card for its next visit. There will also be live band karaoke with Time Machine.
Thursday (16.12.)
Ugly Sweater Holiday Party at the Dallas Comedy Club
Another ugly sweater party! This is geared towards the singles. So if you need someone for the mistletoe, this is your chance to find them (with respect). The Love Club Show, the comedic version of The Dating Game, starts at 9 p.m. – and you can be a candidate.
Little Jack Melody and His Young Turks Christmas Show at Dans Silverleaf
It is the seventh annual Christmas Miracle singalong performance. With additional music guests like Ann MacMillan, Euphonium and Polly Maynard, it’s guaranteed to be a scream.
Jingle Ball Bash at The Yard in McKinney
Some of us are to kids like the Grinch at Christmas (before that, hearts grow) and that’s right. Here’s an adult-only celebratory event with photo ops with wicked Santa and booze.
Friday (12/17)
Beer & Christmas carols at Oak Highlands Brewery
Join the crew at Oak Highlands Brewery in their taproom and enjoy craft beer, food trucks, Santas and Christmas carols. If you need extra persuasiveness to sing Christmas carols there will be a live band.
Saturday (18.12.)
The polyphonic Spree holiday extravaganza
This is the 18th year of the group holding their vacation extravaganza so trust they know how to make a good time. The musician collective will perform Christmas and rock songs, and there will be additional guests and festive entertainment on-site like face painting, stilt walkers, balloon animals and a goddamn reindeer.
The Holiday Hoedown Ft. Midland at the Texas Trust CU Theater
This country band from Dripping Springs, Texas has a certain 70s-80s charm. This year the band released The Sonic Ranch which you can probably expect to hear a few tunes on this show.
3rd annual MAP Family Ho Ho Ho Down at Sons of Hermann Hall
We bet Midland is feeling really silly for not using the ho ho hoedown pun – or thankful. The Mason Adam’s Project, a Dallas-based band, is leading this hoe. Hippie Hoodoo and The Alcohol Salesman will also be in tow.
Annual Christmas onesie party in the truck yard
Keep the childish Christmas cheer alive by having a few cocktails in a romper suit. With festive drinks – drunk and not drunk – raffles and snowball fights. How exactly do you organize the snowball fights? Let’s find out.
Sunday (19.12.)
Unsilent Night Music Festival at the South Side Ballroom
If your vacation mood is more of a pre-Christmas nightmare, can we suggest this music festival? It was six years away, but 2021 marks his long-awaited return. Some of this year’s acts: Sleeping With Sirens, Nessa Barrett, Scary Kids Scaring Kids and Dallas’ LiL Lotus, The Polarity, Penny Bored, Dani Lovell, The Crown and House Parties.
Monday (December 20th)
Sarah Brightman Christmas Symphony at Winspear Opera House
A Grammy-nominated artist and Original Christine in Phantom of The Opera, this angel of music will sing Christmas classics and favorite songs, accompanied by a choir and orchestra.
Tuesday (12/21)
A Very Swingin ‘Basie Christmas at the Meyerson Symphony Center
Even 30 years after his death, Count Basie’s orchestra still plays concerts around the world. I think we can all agree that jazzy Christmas music is the best Christmas music so there’s no reason to miss this out.
Christmas break at the Majestic Theater
As part of a vacation film series from the Texas Theater and the Majestic Theater, this iconic National Lampoon film will be shown at the latter location. Nobody goes out for this fun, old-fashioned family Christmas.
Friday (December 24th)
A Magical Cirque Christmas at the Texas Trust CU Theater
Host Lucy Darling will lead an evening with cirque artists to festive music. Suitable for the whole family.
Hanukkah Harry saves Christmas at three links
With DJ … a guy named Pete Freedman, we think? Strange. Anyway, this free Christmas party will feature music, games, and charity raffles that will benefit the Genesis Women’s Shelter and Austin Street Center.
Saturday (12/25)
Drink The Tree at The Rustic
The Rustic puts this on every year. Spend Christmas Eve eating tamales and drinking beer – it’s better than milk and cookies, we think. Pick your drinks from the Christmas beer bottle tree.
A Very Sled Zeppelin Xmas with Battle of Evermore in Lola’s Saloon
Hit the curb for Christmas music and jam to classic rock instead. Battle of Evermore, a Led Zeppelin tribute band, will lead this Christmas party.
