3 Dallas restaurants Mick Jagger name-dropped during Cotton Bowl concert

During the Rolling Stones’ rainy concert in Dallas on November 2, 2021, front man Mick Jagger told fans he was “a real foodie.” To prove it, he named Lockhart Smokehouse in the Bishop Arts District and drive-through burger joint Whataburger as a favorite, then named it Mi Cocina’s Mambo Taxi.

Do you call him a volunteer Texan?

He was smart at screaming barbecue, burger and a margarita. Mi Cocina’s Mambo Taxi is practically the city’s official drink. It’s also a strong drink: “Three is the limit,” Jagger told a crowd.

Jeff Bergus, an artist and co-owner of Lockhart Smokehouse, painted Mick Jagger and Keith Richards ahead of the Rolling Stones concert in Dallas on November 2nd, 2021. The painting hangs in Bergus' office, but he will likely move it to a more prominent location after Jagger named her family restaurant. Jagger’s mention of Mi Cocina came at just the right time, as his newest restaurant in Klyde Warren Park opened a few weeks ago.

Lockhart Smokehouse co-owner Jill Grobowsky Bergus said the name drop was “amazing” and her phone had been on all evening from fans of the hometown grill.

“He put us in the same company as Whataburger and Mi Cocinas Mambo Taxi?” She says. “These are Texas icons. It’s damn cool. “

She’s not sure if Jagger visited the Oak Cliff restaurant before the concert; the Berguses were in the shop and didn’t see him. Maybe he was wearing a mask, says Jill. Or maybe, “He just passed us.”

Interestingly, her husband Jeff Bergus created a Jagger and Keith Richards painting that hangs on his office wall. It wasn’t on display in the restaurant – but it probably will be soon, after surprising confirmation from a living legend.

Mi Cocina CEO Edgar Guevara was also surprised by the reputation and says it is an honor to be one of Jagger’s favorites.

“It was a really cool moment last night to have someone as famous as him. [saying he] enjoys the Mambo Taxi in Dallas, Texas, ”says Guevara.

Jagger seems to like to talk about restaurants: at a concert in St. Louis in September, he called Crown Candy Kitchen, a 108-year-old soda fountain.
