6 D-FW breweries with hot July 4 parties

Do you remember Independence Day in 2020? Your memories of perhaps the loneliest July 4th of all time almost certainly don’t include a fun day of locally brewed foam at one of the many craft breweries across Dallas-Fort Worth, thanks to the pandemic closings last year.

But now bars, restaurants and, yes, brewery taprooms are back in business, and the annual hot weather patriotic holiday falls on a weekend. Such a random turn of the calendar almost feels too happy, but we are not going to question it. Given this party-ready confluence, there are a number of craft breweries in North Texas holding parties that this year may be as much about celebrating our individual independence as our nation’s revolutionary birth.

Rollertown Beerworks (until Sunday)

As if there wasn’t enough partying for the Celina Brewery this year, Rollertown will also take the opportunity to celebrate its one year anniversary. By Sunday, the brewery is launching two new beers, a new Seltzer cocktail, and a variety of different festive food pop-ups every day, including Cane Rosso pizza, Kona Shaved Ice, and Fletcher’s Original Corny Dogs. The events are child-friendly, on Saturday a make-up painter sets up a shop.

Tupps Brewery (Saturday)

For their Red, White and Brews party, Tupps Brewery in McKinney opens at 11 a.m. on Saturday so people can enjoy the town’s annual Red, White and BOOM parade before they get to the flag-waving frivolity. Be sure to arrive before country artist Kevin Deal performs at 2pm. Deal has long been one of the better, and perhaps less valued, talent in North Texas, and his vacation performance certainly goes well with an ice cold Tupps National Standard Light American Ale.

Wild Acre Live (Saturday)

To celebrate July 4th and its own fourth and fifth anniversaries (to make up for last year’s missed party), Fort Worth’s Wild Acre Brewing is testing the amplifiers in its new Wild Acre Live concert hall. Just steps away from the brewery and taproom on El Paso Street, the outdoor location will be home to the hometown of the Southern Rock Kings Quaker City Night Hawks. When you purchase a Buzz Pass to the show, you will receive some Wild Acre beers along with your concert ticket. Their T-Hawk Red IPA is one of our favorite beers from D-FW and is ideal for scorching temperatures.

Rahr & Sons Brewing (Saturday)

You can take part in any of the monthly social runs at Rahr and Sons, but none of the others can serve as an Independence Day party. From 9:00 a.m., runners will be treated to a self-guided run, mineral water, a vacation-themed pint glass, three Rahr beers, and a hot breakfast, courtesy of the Holy Frijole Food Truck. Since this is a morning event, it gives you the rest of the day and night to relax and gather for more fireworks.

Texas Ale Project (Sunday)

The Texas Ale Project regularly hosts some of the best brewery parties, so the Brews and Fireworks event should be a great time. With hot dogs from Stan’s Smokehouse, as well as limited edition beers, live music, beer pong, and a cornhole tournament, there’s going to be a lot of fun tonight with the city of Dallas fireworks show hosted by the brewery’s Design District.

Turning Point Beer (Sunday)

The Sippin ‘on Summer Block Party can be hosted by the fine folks at Bedford’s Turning Point Beer, but several notable breweries will be on site to celebrate. Attendees can sample beers from Dallas’ Vector Brewing and Celestial Beerworks, as well as Fort Worth Martin House Brewing and North Richland Hills False Idol Brewing. Food from Frio’s Gourmet Popsicles, Beaux Boudin and more will also be available. And the beer is perhaps the least fun of the party because you’ll also find a giant slip ‘n slide, bouncy castle, bungee run, and inflatable twister. Nowhere else can you enjoy a local brewer than at this party, where the participating brewers take turns in a Dunktank.
