6 foodie events in Collin County this weekend
The weather is finally cooling down – at least by Texan standards – and it’s a good weekend to go outside and have a drink or at least go outside.
From Friday to Sunday, Oktoberfest dominates the weekend in Collin County with German food and beer. In downtown McKinney, you can compete in a beard and mustache or brat eating contest, your weenie dog can compete in a weenie dog race, and you can learn how to make beer or just drink beer.
The Oktoberfest in Allen offers a handicraft market, German dances and jugs.
Plano will be busy on Saturday. From noon, enjoy wine from downtown Plano’s shops, art exhibits, and live music by Mahogany and Remy Reilly on the Downtown Plano Art & Wine Walk.
Also in Plano, the 10th annual Come As You Are Festival of the North Texas Pride Foundation will take place on September 25 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Haggard Park. There’s food trucks, giveaways, dancing, kids ‘activities, and live music from an extremely fun’ 80s tribute act with a clever name, Teen Wolves.

Did you drink enough or just get off the concrete? Go to a Pumpkin Patch. 5G Farms’ pumpkin patch, a 10-acre farm, is open until October 31st. It has 6,000 pumpkins, hay carts, baby goats, a corn maze, and a grill.
Get smoked meat from a legend at Hutchins BBQ in McKinney. After closing on New Year’s Eve due to a fire, the spot was reopened with a new Pitmaster. Known as “the dark prince of Texas barbecue,” John Mueller is the grandson of the famous grill king Louie Mueller of Louie Mueller Barbecue in Taylor. Don’t miss the free ice cream, peach cobbler, and banana pudding.
