A Dallas Restaurant is Hosting a $5,555 Dinner Paired With an Incredibly Rare Japanese Whisky

How much would you pay to try an extremely rare whiskey?

Tei-An, a Japanese restaurant run by Chef Teiichi Sakurai, is one of the posh places in Dallas to enjoy Japanese cuisine. And for a brief moment on November 9th, it will be one of the classiest places in Dallas to sample an incredibly rare whiskey from Japan.

The private event will host 18 whiskey enthusiasts with enough cash to pay for the high-priced meal to taste the Yamazaki 55 whiskey. Yamazaki 55 has become a legend in the whiskey world thanks to the postponement of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The whiskey launched last year with only 100 bottles available, but has struggled to gain much popularity thanks to the pandemic. Now whiskey enthusiasts around the world are craving a sip of this incredibly rare adult drink.

Yamazaki 55 is a blend of two Japanese single malt whiskeys. One was distilled in 1960 by the legendary founder of the house Suntory Shinjiro Torii and matured in Mizunara oak barrels. And the other was distilled in 1964 and aged in white oak barrels. The mixture was bottled in 2020 and launched in the summer.

Rumor has it that the House of Suntory will decide which liquor stores and restaurants in which parts of the world can buy one of the rare 100 bottles of Yamazaki 55. The bottles are so rare that they sell for up to $ 795,000 USD at auctions around the globe. As far as we know, Tei-An is the only facility in Dallas, and perhaps all of Texas, that has been granted this privilege.

Dinner at Tei-An begins with a taste of the more popular Japanese Yamazaki 12-year whiskey. Then guests can try the Yamazaki 18 year old, the 25 year old and finally the 55 year old. Every glass is poured cleanly so make sure you really like whiskey before you partake. After the whiskey tastings, Tei-An’s chief owner Teiichi Sakurai will prepare a Japanese four-course meal that goes well with whiskey and whiskey-based cocktails. Finally, your evening will end with a nice cigar.

“Touched by the hand of Shinjiro Torii, Yamazaki 55 reaches over time.” – House of Suntory

The House of Suntory describes the 55-year-old Yamazaki whiskey as follows:
“Touched by Shinjiro Torii’s hand, Yamazaki 55 reaches out over time.

A spiritual blend that highlights the Mizunara barrel whiskey distilled under the supervision of founder Shinjiro Torii in 1960 and the White Oak barrel whiskey distilled in 1964.

Yamazaki 55 is Suntory’s homage to the passage of time. “
