Achane, Spiller Help No. 16 A&M rout Prairie View – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

Devon Achane and Isaiah Spiller combined three touchdowns before halftime, and No. 16 Texas A&M cruised to a 52-3 win over Prairie View A&M on Saturday.

Texas A&M made a slight recovery from last week’s loss at Ole Miss. Prairie View (7-3), an FCS school that plays in SWAC, just couldn’t keep up with the Aggies (8-3).

“Our boys went out and played well and did what we should,” said Jimbo Fisher, Texas A&M coach.

Texas A&M led 38-0 after a dominant first half from Achane and Spiller. It also restricted Prairie View to 2 yards that passed before the break.

Moose Muhammad snatched a 30-yard TD pass from Zach Calzada after Texas A&M first possession in the third quarter to make it 45-0. The Panthers got a 25-yard field goal from Luis Reyes on the board on the next drive.

Backup quarterback Blake Bost then took over A&M in the third quarter with about 5 1/2 minutes remaining. Achane and Spiller combined rushing for 115 yards in the first two quarters and stopped running the ball after halftime.

“They are great players and have had very efficient days,” said Fisher. “You started everything perfectly for us.”

The Prairie View Jawon Pass graduate transfer had only one degree and lost a fumble that the Aggies returned for a touchdown before being benched for Trazon Connley. He wasn’t feeling much better, he only completed a pass for 7 yards and charged for 41 yards.

Jaden Stewart had 24 carries for 100 yards for Prairie View.

Spiller and Achane each had a roaring touchdown in the first quarter before the Aggies added a score on defense. Antonio Johnson was unlocked on a Sack Pass that made him fumble. Aaron Hansford grabbed the ball and ran 17 yards for a touchdown.

A 33-yard touchdown reception from Muhammad extended the lead to 31-0 in the second quarter in about 5 1/2 minutes.

The Aggies went into halftime 38-0 after Achane scored a goal in a 1-yard run in fourth, six seconds behind in second.

Amari Daniels scored a 52-3 in an 8-yard run early in the fourth quarter.

SURVEY IMPACT
Texas A&M should keep its place in the poll.
