The two day course is aimed at integrated pest control, IPM, professionals and individuals who use pesticides in their work for communities, universities, public schools and food safety personnel.

The cost is $ 200 and the academy is limited to the first 50 participants who register at https://tx.ag/TRADec21. Classes include course materials and meals. The event will take place at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center on 17360 Coit Road in the Water and Land Resource Building.

For students who have passed a final exam, a certificate of academy degree and structural pest control credits will be issued to participants who apply and meet the required criteria.

“We are very excited to welcome IPM experts to this one-on-one, hands-on rodent management workshop,” said Janet Hurley, Integrated Pest Control Specialist at AgriLife Extension, Dallas. “In the past two years we have seen buildings and shops closed at times. Combine that with changing behavior patterns and alternative food sources for rats and we have experienced problems and problems that we have not experienced before. “

Hurley said the goal of the Texas Rodent Academy is to provide a highly focused and standardized approach to rodent population management through IPM. Upon completion of the course, participants will be able to manage rodent populations more effectively due to an improved understanding of the biology, behavior and habitat of rodents.

Participants will also learn about the factors contributing to the infestation, effective methods of assessing site-specific responses and strategies, and effective communication strategies with the public to achieve lasting change and improvement.

“We are excited to have so many leaders in the IPM space to discuss these topics and the latest technologies, studies and solutions related to pest control,” she said.

In addition to Hurley, Niamh Quinn, Ph.D., advisor on human-wildlife interactions, South Coast Research and Extension Center, University of California, Irvine, speaker in urban rodentology; Claudia Riegel, Ph.D., City of New Orleans Mosquito, Termite, director of the Rodent Control Board; and City of New Orleans Mosquito, Termite, member of the Rodent Control Board Timmy Madre.

The lesson topics include:

• The health impact of rodents.

• Rodents and allergens.

• Rodent biology and behavior.

• Overview of integrated pest management.

• Pesticide labels and federal regulations.

• External bait boxes – what, where and how?

• Alternative rat control tools and techniques.
