In Texas, it’s not just the heat index that is rising, with the AAA reporting a surge in gasoline prices due to high demand this summer.
Currently, the average gas price in Texas is $ 2.84 for a gallon of unleaded fuel, which is 93 cents more per gallon compared to last year.
In a recent survey, the Auto Membership Service found that drivers in Odessa and Midland pay the most at $ 3.04 on average, while drivers in the Houston and San Antonio areas at $ 2.78 a gallon on average least pay.
After the Independence Day trips, the Energy Information Administration reported that US gasoline demand fell from a high of more than 10 million barrels a day to 9.3 million each week.
As demand increases, so do petrol prices, which are the main factor behind what customers pay at the pump. According to the AAA, crude oil prices have fluctuated this week as OPEC + members try to reach an agreement on global production.
“The upward trend in gas prices continued for another week, if only by a few cents on the national average,” said Daniel Armbruster, spokesman for AAA Texas, in a written statement. “And while crude oil prices have been on a roller coaster ride lately, they are still higher than last year, which is why we all pay more for gasoline.”
