The annual De Soto Fun Days resume on Saturday 18th September with activities for everyone.
“It will be fun to do a lot for the kids. And for the adults too, we wanted to make sure everyone had something to do, ”said Samantha Long. Long is a member of the Friends of De Soto Betterment Committee, which plans the De Soto Fun Days.
This year’s event starts on Saturday at 11 a.m. with a parade. The line-up starts at 10:15 am in the De Soto Intermediate School parking lot. Long said no pre-registration is required and those who wish to attend the parade should show up at 10:15 am
The parade leads over Dallas Street to Elm Street. The rest of the day takes place in Little Bridge Park.
From 11.30 a.m., food trucks and bouncy castles are ready for children of all ages. A magician appears at noon. 3 pm
There is a car show from 12 noon to 2 p.m. While no trophies will be given out, Long said there will be door prizes.
“No entry, only if you love it, bring it with you,” she said.
The De Soto Fire Department will have a plunge pool from 12 noon to 5 pm and, weather permitting, water fights for children
A new event will be bingo from 1pm to 1pm. Long said the De Soto Betterment Committee members have been tasked with creating prizes for the event and there will be various baskets to be won. She added that the committee had supported local businesses by buying the prize items in town.
“Everything so far has been bought by De Soto so we can support our local businesses and at the same time have something to look forward to,” Long added of the bingo event.
The festivities will end with live music at exit 113 from 3pm to 5pm
Long is excited to see De Soto Fun Days return after a year hiatus due to COVID-19.
“We’re just happy to see people outside again. It’s nice to have that sense of community, ”she said.
