PLANO, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – While road construction can seem like a ‘fact of life’, news comes on Friday December 3rd that at least one project has been completed.

The North Texas Tollway Authority (NTTA) has opened an additional lane in each direction on the 26-mile Highway 121, Sam Rayburn Tollway.

According to NTTA, construction crews worked for three years to complete the expansion project.

“This expansion will help reduce traffic congestion for our customers,” said Elizabeth Mow, NTTA Assistant Executive Director of Infrastructure. “The widened toll road will offer motorists a safe, smooth and comfortable travel option in a rapidly growing travel corridor.”

The NTTA said it is investing in “expansions not only in the SRT, but also in other projects that are either imminent or already underway, including President George Bush Turnpike and Dallas North Tollway.”

Additional lanes will help reduce traffic jams and provide travel options for the growing population of North Texas.
