Texas Extending Emergency SNAP Benefits Through December – CBS Dallas / Fort Worth

AUSTIN, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – Governor Greg Abbott announced today that $ 308 million in emergency food aid approved by the Biden administration will be made available to Texans for December.

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) has received approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to extend the maximum allowable amount of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) food grants to recipients based on family size, and all SNAP households Receive a minimum of $ 95 in emergency contingents through December 31st.

“The extension of the SNAP emergency food supply for the month of December ensures Texans can bring food to the table this Christmas season,” said Governor Abbott. “I thank HHSC for their continued efforts to ensure access to nutritious food for millions of Texas families.”

“As Texas families gather this month to celebrate the holidays, this will provide them some comfort with these additional funds to help them purchase nutritious groceries,” said Wayne Salter, assistant executive commissioner, Texas HHS Access and Eligibility Services.

The emergency grants are in addition to the more than $ 5.1 billion in benefits the state government has been providing Texans with since April 2020.
