Texas gubernatorial candidate Danny Harrison puts his platform in front of Bowie County Patriots in Nash, Texas, Thursday night

NASH, Texas – Republican candidate for governor of Texas Danny Harrison spoke to the Bowie County Patriots Thursday night about his perspective on the issues.

“My family has extensive backgrounds in the service, military, law enforcement, and even medical fields,” said the Dallas-area landscaper and entrepreneur. “I’m from the private sector. I’ve done pretty well, but basically I’m a small, local entrepreneur. And I really think that’s something the next governor of Texas needs.”

Harrison said he believed Governor Greg Abbot was basically a “good guy” but only knew the world of politics and had been around for too long.

“He has no real world experience,” Harrison said. “Nowhere has that been better illustrated than his handling of the COVID crisis here in Texas. If you are forcing some local businesses to shut down but allowing Wal Marts, Lowe’s, and so on to operate non-stop, that’s a problem.”

He said 11,000 small businesses in Texas were lost due to state restrictions during COVID.

Harrison reprimanded President Joe Biden about the border crisis and Abbot’s inadequate action in the face of the situation.

“I want the Texas governor to say, ‘Biden, I don’t know what your agenda is, but whatever it is, it’s not good,” he said. “When the Chinese communists buy Texas real estate next to American military bases, steal our secrets, throw their weight around in the Pacific, oh, and oh yes, COVID, the governor of Texas has to get up.”

Harrison believes a Texas small business owner is a good fit for the Texas situation and gives him a hands-on view of the issues.

“I’m strong on oil and gas,” he said. “We have to protect these resources and our independence from energy. But also sun, wind, nuclear power, I like variety.”

When it comes to censorship, Harrison believes social media companies are spiraling out of control.

“Censorship, social media, I can’t even advertise on Twitter,” he said. “Section 230 protects social media companies, but censorship should defeat that protection.”

Harrison is in favor of lowering Texas property taxes.

“We have to look for a way to put sales taxes in their place,” he said.

Harrison also advocates term limits for elected officials.

“I support entertainment and gambling in Texas,” he said. “We’re losing business to Louisiana and Oklahoma. We’re also a huge horse state, but why are we leaving horse racing to Kentucky? The benefits outweigh the disadvantages when done right.”

Then he brought up the issue of cannabis and how he believes Texas should change its stance on it.

“I don’t smoke cannabis,” he said. “But I’ve talked to mothers who have lost children, who got their hands on illegal things, who killed them. I believe that intelligently regulated instead of illegal ones could also help in this. “

He said you need politicians willing to push back.

“I’m a proud Texan, a little businessman with a fire in my stomach,” he said. “I have the right attitude, motivation, a little bit of ego. I am a person who wants the best for our state.”
