The Texas Public Utility Commission announced on Monday a nationwide search for eight new members for ERCOT’s board of directors.
The search comes under a law passed during this spring legislature that requires board members to live in Texas.

Several ERCOT board members resigned after the deadly winter storm, including chairwoman Sally Talberg and vice chairman Peter Cramton, who did not live in Texas.
The resignations came a day before state lawmakers were due to begin hearings about the power grid collapse.

The search is carried out by the executive search company Heidrick & Struggles. The selection committee includes Arch Aplin, CEO of Buc-ee, former Chairman of the Board of Regents of UNT System G. Brint Ryan, and Chairman emeritus of the Board of Regents of Texas A&M University System Bill Jones.
“The 87th Texas Legislature has given a clear direction for reforms to ERCOT governance in Senate Bill 2,” PUC Chairman Peter Lake said in a statement. “I am grateful that the government has selected such accomplished business leaders to appoint the new ERCOT Board of Directors who will embark on a new path to providing reliable energy for Texans.”
ERCOT CEO Bill Magness was fired after the winter storm and former Texas Public Utility Commission chair DeAnn Walker resigned.
According to the Texas Ministry of Health, more than 200 people died in the winter storm in February.
