It’s a party in a cup.

We may all have fallen on our heads, but the summer heat isn’t quite finished with us yet. The good news is if you’re looking for a way to cool off, there is a solution in Garland that will brush you up with a little kick.

Antojitos El Panzon is a bright yellow food truck parked in the parking lot of a grocery store at 2215 W. Walnut Street in Garland. While it looks small on the outside, Antojitos El Panzon makes great flavors on the inside.

The trailer has everything from nachos and quesadillas to fruit cups and amniotic fluid, but the star of the menu is the slushies. These are no ordinary slushies. Made from fresh fruit, they’re packed with both sweet and savory treats for a combo that sounds interesting on paper, to say the least.

The drinks are built into a glass-like cup, with the slushie at the bottom. The cup is packed with sweets such as sour rubber worms, rubber ropes and, depending on the taste of the slushie, a variety of Pulparindos, Chamoy Vasito Mara and Chileta, Rica Pina and Limon Paleta lollipops in flavors such as Mango and Fresa (strawberry). . Then it is drizzled with a homemade chamoy that contains tamarind, syrup, pulparindos and a special secret blend of spices. The result is a hearty spiciness that offsets the sweetness of the slushie.

Owner Jose Carlos says he got the idea from drinks he had seen in other places that inspired him to add his own touch. Carlos, a native of Richardson, has been a line cook in kitchens since he was 16. At 26, he decided to become his own boss and opened this trailer last May. With the help of his wife Lilliana, his mother Rosa Pineda and his mother-in-law Angelica Garcia, he tries to start his own company with this concept. Eventually, he’s hoping to have more trailers in the North Texas area.

We tried three slushies: the piña, the strawberry lime and the mango, which was the house recommendation. The strawberry lime tasted like strawberries fresh from the vine, with real strawberry pieces in the drink. The tart taste of the sour gums added a sweetness to the drink that really brought out the lime.

The piña tastes like a piña colada without the coconut: cold, refreshing and again not too sweet. There was just enough chamoy to make the pineapple shine as the main ingredient, but enough flavor to keep the drink balanced.

The mango was the cutest of the trio, and it’s easy to see why it’s a house recommendation. The floral notes of the mango weren’t overshadowed by candy or chamoy, and the result was a balanced drink overall.

While we were there, we also tried the fruit cup, a mixture of strawberries, cucumber, jicama and pineapple, also drizzled with tamarind chamoy. The taste of the Chamoy isn’t intrusive, which makes the fruit a bit spicy, but doesn’t change the taste too much.

Finally we tried the Aguas Frescas; Fruit enriched water that Antojitos El Panzon makes himself. They offer a changing selection of flavors depending on the day, so we tried the cucumber water and the mango water. The cucumber water tastes slightly sweet and is packed with fresh cucumber slices and ground cucumber with a slight hint of pickle. Perfectly refreshing for those hot Texas evenings. The mango was the sweeter of the two options, but just as refreshing and made with freshly pureed mango.

While the slushies aren’t exactly cup holder friendly, Antojitos El Panzon has set up shady picnic tables so you can enjoy your drinks and snacks on the premises. Keep an eye out for the recordings they gave away with your purchase this weekend.

And no, as hard as we tried, we couldn’t finish one. In fact, we’re still working on the candy.
