Fan festival

4:30 p.m. Friday, August 20 at the Van Meter School and Veterans Reception Center.

Van Meter’s Fan Fest returns on Friday 20th August. Attendees are encouraged to bring lounge chairs as the entire event takes place outdoors. Activities in the school start with the soccer game at 4:30 p.m., followed by the presentation of the cross-country team and volleyball game at 5:00 p.m. The Van Meter Athletic Boosters then hold the athletes’ parade with student TK-12 at 6:15 pm by walking the track with their grade. After the parade, head to the Veterans Reception Center to enjoy food trucks, music, inflatables, and a silent auction. Any proceeds raised through this event will benefit the Van Meter student athletes.

Perry Public Safety Day

10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday, August 21 in the Perry Hy-Vee car park.

Perry Public Safety Day will take place on Saturday, August 21, in the Perry Hy-Vee parking lot. The free event features vehicle and equipment demonstrations from the Perry Police Department, Perry Volunteer Fire Department, Perry Public Works and EMS. LifeFlight will appear when they are available.

Movie in the park

Saturday, August 21st in Kinnick-Feller Park, Adel.

The Movies in the Park series ends on Saturday, August 21, at Kinnick-Feller Park in Adel. “Despicable Me” is shown at sunset. Popcorn will be provided. Participants should bring their own chair / blanket.

Dallas Center Fall Festival

Friday August 27th – Saturday August 28th at the Dallas Center.

The Dallas Center Fall Festival returns from August 27th to 28th with the theme “ROARING into the TWENTIES”. Activities begin August 27th with Roaring 20’s Old Tyme Photo Selfies, a farmers market, vendors, DJ music, lawn games and free open skating at Mound Park, a carnival on Walnut Street, and more. The night ends with an alumni after party in the Twisted Corn Tavern. Saturday begins with a pancake breakfast and 3-mile run, followed by the Leonard Moss Memorial Parade at 10:00 am, ice cream, cake auction, and more. The two-day festival ends with live music from South of Society at the Twisted Corn Tavern and fireworks.

Granger days

Friday August 27th – Saturday August 28th at Centennial Park, Granger.

Granger Days kicks off on Friday, August 27th at 9:00 p.m. with Farm Rock on the stage outside Bud’s Pub on Main Street. The event will continue with a pancake breakfast in the Catholic Church of the Assumption and a 5K Fun Run in the Early Learning Center on Saturday morning, August 28th. The parade begins at 10 a.m. on Kennedy Blvd., followed by activities in Centennial Park. The vendors are set up from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Face-painting, carnival rides / inflatables, chicken bingo, and more start at 11am. Firefighter water fights take place on Sycamore Street from 1:00 PM to 1:00 PM. Live music is played from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. At 8 p.m. a film will be shown on the ball field. The Saturday evening ends with live music from Toaster from 9:00 p.m. in front of Bud’s Pub until 1:00 a.m. A full schedule can be found on the Granger Days Facebook page.

Grimes tower

10:30 am Saturday, August 28th at Waterworks Park, Grimes.

This event offers two distinctly different driving options. A Family Ride (4.7 miles) that includes Grimes and a Fun Ride (23 miles one way / 46 miles round trip) that takes riders to the Kinship Brewing Co. in Waukee and back. The West Polk County Rotary Club is organizing this event in collaboration with many business sponsors and Scott Mikkelsen. Tickets are $ 10 for a single driver or $ 20 for a family (up to six drivers). Tickets can be purchased online or on the day of the event. The event begins in Waterworks Park next to the Grimes Public Library. This is a fundraiser for a proposed community amphitheater project honoring veterans in all U.S. service branches. Latino Festival

11 a.m. – 7 p.m. Saturday, August 28, Second Street and Willis Avenue, Perry.

Hispanics United for Perry will host the annual Latino Festival on Saturday, August 28th. There is a parade at 10 a.m. on Willis Avenue. Activities include food, music, dancing, and more throughout the day.

Waukee-Palooza!

2 p.m. Saturday, August 28 at Centennial Park, Waukee.

The Rotary Club of Waukee is hosting its third annual music event in Centennial Park on Saturday, August 28th. Waukee Rotary, formerly known as the Bar-B-Kee Bash, has renamed this event to focus on family fun. Food trucks will be on site, alcoholic and soft drinks will be available for purchase, and youth activities will be offered. In the afternoon and early evening, a number of local youth music groups and solo acts have the opportunity to perform in front of the headlining Big Time Grain Company at 7:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased on Eventbrite by searching for Waukee Palooza.
