Back-to-school party in Irving will offer free haircuts, a DJ and food trucks
A nonprofit in Irving is hosting a back-to-school party this weekend with free school-age haircuts, food trucks, and a basketball game.
All school-age children in North Texas are eligible to attend the event, which will be held on Saturday, August 14, from 12pm to 6pm at MacArthur High School, 3700 N. MacArthur Blvd., Irving.
Irving-born MarQuez Haynes, a professional basketball player in Europe, is hosting the event through his Living Legends Foundation, which he began giving back to the community. Haynes also played college basketball at Boston College and the University of Texas at Arlington.
The foundation works to create opportunities and improve the quality of life for black and Latinx youth in socio-economically disadvantaged communities.
Families who have registered receive free backpacks with school supplies.
The event, which is in its fourth year, will also include a DJ, raffles, prizes, a bouncy castle and face-paint, according to a press release.
An alumni basketball game is scheduled for 6 p.m., and four YouTube dunking sensations will be featured at halftime entertainment.
