Publisher’s Note: A lot has happened this week so this is your chance to catch up. Read on for the week’s most popular headlines.

1. 16 best new restaurants in Dallas compete for the coveted Tastemaker title. Probably the most popular part of CultureMap’s Tastemaker Awards, our annual celebration of the best food and drink in Dallas, is the Best New Restaurant category. It’s the only category you choose in a bracket-style competition that sees 16 new restaurants compete against each other. You can vote for your favorite once a day. To vote, click here. Don’t hesitate: the first round ends on Monday 2nd August.

2. 3 fun weekend events in Dallas-Fort Worth ending due to COVID-19. As COVID-19 returns to its big summer encore among (mostly) the unvaccinated in Dallas-Fort Worth, it brings with it the dreaded funny-thing cancellation that funny-thing fans suffered in 2020. Hopefully last weekend was not the beginning of an annoying trend, but three event cancellations for the same reasons justified a warning.

3. Ex-employee sues Dallas restaurant group for discriminatory practices. A Dallas restaurant group was sued for discrimination by a former manager. On July 19, a lawsuit against the Vandelay Hospitality Group, which includes the East Hampton Sandwich Company, Hudson House, Brentwood and Drake’s Hollywood, was filed by Glenn Govias, a former manager of Drake’s Hollywood, for widespread discriminatory practices.

4. Award-winning Dumplings Star in the new Dim Sum Restaurant in Addison. A new restaurant is bringing juicy dumplings to town: it’s called Bushi Bushi and is located in Addison, 4930 Belt Line Rd. # 100, in the former Café Brazil, where a gentle opening will take place over the next few weeks.

5. Exciting new comedy house vows to bring Vegas polished to Plano. Something funny is happening in Plano: it’s called The House of Comedy, it’s a new venue opening in The Shops at Legacy by two players with decades of experience in the industry. It will be available in early fall at 7301 Lone Star Dr. opened in a room previously occupied by The Blue Martini.
