Beloved neighborhood eateries top week’s 5 most popular Dallas stories

1. The 10 best Dallas neighborhood restaurants really are here to serve. For many guests, the most important restaurant is the neighborhood restaurant – the nearby restaurant that they frequent, which is almost an extension of their own home. For these reasons and more, we’re including neighborhood restaurants as one of the categories in our annual CultureMap Tastemaker Awards that celebrate the best food and drink in Dallas. Here are the 10 nominees for the best neighborhood restaurant.

2. Galleria Dallas is filled with 5 new stores, all of which are opening this summer. Galleria Dallas has a number of new store openings that are either coming soon or are here already. A press release lists five new vendors – four of which are women-owned small businesses that are either opening their first location or expanding with a second. Here is the list.

3. The BBQ restaurant in the Lakewood neighborhood of Dallas is closing its doors. A Dallas BBQ restaurant gave up after five years: The Lakewood Smokehouse, which opened in Lakewood in 2016, closed for good on July 22nd. The restaurant shared the news on Facebook, citing COVID-19 and other factors.

4. Dallas’ venerable original La Madeleine is reopening after a major renovation. La Madeline French Bakery & Café on Mockingbird Lane near SMU is slated to reopen on Saturday July 24th. According to an announcement, the site will be temporarily closed for renovation work for a few weeks. This is the original La Madeleine that opened at 3072 Mockingbird Ln. 1983.

5. How to see Biles, Chiles, and all of the Tokyo Olympic Gymnastics action at home in Dallas. Gymnastics fans can jump Jurchenko twice for joy: The Olympic Games in Tokyo have finally landed.
