The Travel + Leisure publication’s list of the 50 Best Places to Visit in 2022 ranges from far-flung destinations to popular hometowns with 23 locations in North America. Here’s what they said about # 31 – Newport, Rhode Island:
Newport is considered one of the sailing capitals in the world. It is home to the largest fleet of America’s Cup 12-meter yachts, most of which are available for charter. In May, the coastal city welcomes a sailing museum that is sure to cement this title.
In the past few years, a number of hotel openings have filled a much-needed void for luxury accommodations, including Hammett’s Hotel, Brenton Hotel and The Wayfinder Hotel. The Vanderbilt, Auberge Resorts Collection is debuting the highly anticipated transformation of the property, designed by Dallas-based design collective Swoon – the lobby, dining room, and common areas are now complete, and the guest rooms will be completed early next year.
Renowned beverage manager Maxwell Britten has joined the team as chief cocktail curator with James Beard Award-winning chef April Bloomfield, who cooks a selection of upscale pub-inspired dishes. And don’t miss the Giusto at Hammett’s Hotel, which serves excellent Italian with a Rhode Island twist.
