Wednesday 18th August

Andrew Dice Clay
If Andrew Dice Clay got on TV as a kid, your parents likely kicked you out of the room or quickly switched channels. For some of us, that only made him more interesting and a must-have stand-up comedian. Now that we’re all adults, that’s exactly what we’re going to do: go to him. Usually wearing a black leather jacket with a cigarette in hand and known for his cheeky personality, Clay is playing at Hyena’s Comedy Nightclub Fort Worth (425 Commerce St.) on Wednesday, August 18 at 8:30 pm. Tickets are $ 85 and up at prekindle.com.

Helium Queens: A Space Opera
The space-pop trio Helium Queens combines science fiction, neon and a matriarchal world and has created an opera that is different from most. Helium Queens: A Space Opera tells the story of three queens of the moon who fight under the rule of an evil king to save the earth and the moon from social collapse. Like any Helium Queens show, the show will be glowing under black light and will include several other characters and staff. Watch one of four shows this month, starting Friday, August 20 at 8:30 PM at 723 Fort Worth Avenue. Tickets are $ 22, $ 33, and $ 55, respectively. For more information on all seasons and ticket packages, visit eventbrite.com.

Chocolate and art exhibition
We can’t say we’ve seen many art exhibitions that are known to serve free gourmet chocolate all night long, but that is exactly what the Chocolate and Art Show is all about. The Chocolate and Art Show celebrates its 10th anniversary this week and also features some of Dallas’s best up and coming artists, body paint, vendors and live music. For all of the fun, take your sweet tooth to Lofty Spaces (816 Montgomery St.) at 8 p.m. Thursday August 19 or Friday August 20. Tickets to the event cost between $ 15 and $ 50. Secret of the two-headed jaguar
Our cheeky favorite magician Edward Ruiz, known on stage as Confetti Eddie, is back after closing his shop in Expo Park over a year ago, a place he lived in as an art gallery, studio and magic salon for over two decades. This week he’s introducing his new show, a self-discovery story called Mystery of the Two-Headed Jaguar, on Four Day Weekend Comedy (5601 Sears St.) on Thursday, August 19th at 8pm. This solo performance shows Confetti Eddie’s signature salon magic, illusions and audience participation, which, as he suggests, determine the course of the evening. Tickets for the show range from $ 30 to $ 40 on prekindle.com.

Saturday 21st August

Riddigan’s Island Tiki Night
Step into the exotic this week when Thunderbird Station (3400 Commerce St.) hosts Riddigans Island Tiki Night. If you’ve never experienced the magic of exotic music, here’s a quick backstory: In the 1950s, a composer named Martin Denny created a genre that channeled the musical styles of areas of the world like Hawaii, Polynesia, and the Caribbean and incorporated the sounds of island animals in the Background – music that takes you straight to a tropical paradise in an unknown location. On Saturday, August 21, at 9 p.m., hear local band The Moondials making their Exotica debut, sip special cocktails, learn to hula dance, and shop for local vendors for tiki-inspired jewelry, clothing, and more. Participation in the event is free.

Invitation to draw in the Goldmark cultural center
When making a phone call, people carelessly scribble on a notepad and then masterfully draw works of art. And while most of our doodles end up in the trash can, we fully appreciate the art form (if done right). Check out the Drawing Invitational at the Goldmark Cultural Center (13999 Goldmark Drive) this week for a look at some of the region’s best illustrators, including various aesthetics and methodologies within the medium. This free exhibition now runs through Friday 3rd September.

Sunday 22nd August

the never ending Story
We all remember the moment in our childhood when we saw a horse named Artax get swallowed by a swamp and our lives changed forever. Maybe that’s an exaggeration, but when you’re 5 years old and crying ugly, this iconic scene from the Neverending Story sucker hit us right in the mood. But why not relive this trauma on Sunday, August 22nd at 6 p.m. at the Texas Theater (231 W. Jefferson Blvd.) on the big screen in the presence of Noah Hathaway (who played the groom Atreyu) for a question -and-answer session, followed by an autograph session. Tickets are $ 14 on prekindle.com.

It’s always sunny in Philadelphia Trivia
If words like Milk Steak and Chardee MacDennis mean nothing to you, please move on in your demanding and perfect life. As for the rest of us who played It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, we absolutely wasted a lot of space in our brains remembering things like the DENNIS system and the Lethal Weapon 6 plot. But we will take our otherwise senseless knowledge to the Flying Saucer Draft Emporium The Lake (4821 Bass Pro Drive, Garland) on Tuesday, August 24th at 7 p.m., for the It’s Always Sunny quiz night in Philadelphia including $ 50 for first place and a beer flight from Odd Side Ales with beers called Cultivating Mass, Thunder Gun Express, Shadynasty’s IPA and a shot of Fight Milk.
