Addison Oktoberfest
The German harvest festival Oktoberfest was originally a farewell party of pleasant weather and summer beer when the season changed and the bar owners had to empty their kegs for the new winter beers. We can’t say that mid-September has the most pleasant weather here, but we still like to celebrate with our own four-day Oktoberfest. The Addison Oktoberfest is back this week and offers German entertainers in authentic outfits who perform Bavarian folk dances, authentic German cuisine such as sausage, sauerkraut and giant pretzels, carnival rides, children’s entertainment and more from September 16 to 19 in the Addison Circle Park (4970.) Addison Circle Drive). Ticket packages vary and are available at addisonoktoberfest.com.

White Rock Farmers Market
Few things make you feel more successful as a young adult than waking up early on a Saturday morning to buy fresh produce from your local farmers market – and maybe sniff a hot kolache and sip an iced coffee while choosing a freshly cut bouquet of flowers. It’s all very quaint and sophisticated, and it also helps local farmers, vendors, and artists. Since 2009, East Dallas has enjoyed its White Rock Farmers Market with meat, cheese, jams, specialties and more from manufacturers only. The market is open on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. and is located in the parking lot of LakePointe Church (9150 Garland Road).
