Big Tex To Be Dismantled Wednesday After Welcoming Millions Back to Fair Park – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth
After Big Tex has welcomed the North Texans back to the Fair Park for another year, they will ride “into the sunset” on Wednesday and will be dismantled.
The crews will begin dismantling the giant cowboy on Wednesday at 10am, marking the end of Big Tex’s 69th year as the official host of the show and this year’s theme of “Howdy, Folks!” signals.
Big Tex welcomed more than 2.2 million visitors to the Fair Park during the 24-day fair.
Here are some facts about the 2021 State Fair of Texas.
- More than 1,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine were given to show attendees by the Dallas County Department of Health.
- More than 300 volunteers supported the Feed the Need campaign and collected nearly 200,000 pounds of canned food at the gates of the State Fair, the equivalent of more than 236,000 meals for the North Texas Food Bank.
- More than 21,000 First Repsonders and their families visited the fair for 24 days and used the special discount offer for their service.
- More than 50,000 military personnel and their families attended the fair on 24 days, also with a discount offer.
- About 525,000 Fletcher’s cheesy dogs have been sold.
- Nearly 1.84 million free tickets have been issued to students across North Texas, with more than 270,000 teachers receiving a voucher for free entry.
Exactly a week before the opening day, the State Fair of Texas lifted Big Tex into its place.
