Buzzy California restaurant Dave’s Hot Chicken now open in Plano

When the first Dave’s Hot Chicken opened in Texas in May 2021, people stood in line two hours early and showed how hot this Hot Chicken craze has gotten. The brand is spreading like fire, fueled in part by news that rapper Drake is a new investor.

Dave’s Hot Chicken has opened up to 30 restaurants in the United States. It’s been quite a shock since Chef Dave Kopushyan and a few of his friends started selling hot chicken in a parking lot in East Hollywood, California. Most of Dave’s Hot Chickens are currently in California, but Wetzel’s Pretzels co-founder Bill Phelps plans to open more than 400 franchise restaurants over the next several years.

The four Armenian friends who started the business now attend at least one restaurant opening a week for the rest of the year with no end in sight.

The new Plano Restaurant is located at 8315 Preston Road, just south of State Highway 121 in West Plano.

Those in line are either curious about all the hype or come back for a bite from an iconic fried chicken shop.

Dave’s sells fried chicken tenders in seven seasoning levels. Beware of the hottest “reaper”: you have to sign an actual waiver. To order, customers only choose one of three options: Combo 1, 2, or 3, which are a mix of tender, chicken slider, and fries.

The sliders come with cucumber, kale salad and a mayo-based sauce. Professional tip: Use the slider to increase one level of spiciness, because the bread, coleslaw and sauce cut through the heat. At least that’s how Kopushyan does it.

Eventually Dave plans to spread his wings all over North Texas.

Next up is a restaurant on 4608 Bryant Irvin Road in Fort Worth, off Interstate 20, in place of Schlotzky’s. It is expected to open in mid-November 2021.

The company has planned two restaurants in Dallas-Fort Worth in the first quarter of 2022: another in Plano at 1709 Preston Road (near Park Boulevard); and another in Fort Worth at 3105 Cockrell Ave. (near Texas Christian University).

Dave’s Hot Chicken is located at 8215 Preston Road, Plano. It opened on October 29, 2021. The opening times are seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. The first Dave’s Hot Chicken in Texas stays at 14750 Preston Road (between Spring Valley and Belt Line Roads), Dallas. It opened on May 28, 2021.
