Carolina Volleyball Announces 2021 Schedule

CHAPEL HILL – North Carolina volleyball and head coach Joe Sagula announced on Monday its schedule for Fall 2021, highlighted by hosting three top 25 teams at the Carmichael Arena this season.
“We always strive for a balanced game plan, at home and away, against teams that will test us in different ways at the beginning of the season and I think that’s what we have,” said Sagula. “We like our ACC schedule again this year. We’re going to host teams that we just lost on the way to last season, so it will be good to play them at home. One of our goals is to play and play to return the top. ” the ACC this year with a chance at the NCAA tournament. Ahead of the official season opener, North Carolina is splitting in two for their annual Blue / White Scrimmage (August 20) at the Carmichael Arena. The next day, UNC welcomed High Point (August 21) to an exhibition game.
“We’ll be tested from the start with a three-game competitive tournament in Dallas at SMU (SF Austin, Pacific, and Host SMU) and then return home to our inaugural home game against Colorado State, a traditionally strong NCAA rankings, to contest team, together with regional opponents East Carolina and Woofford. After we have accepted the ACC Big Ten challenge (UNC-Duke vs Michigan-Michigan St.) on the road, we will be with national teams for one last weekend return home with Elon, Charlotte and Davidson. “
The tar heels hit the road earlier in the season and traveled to Dallas to compete in the SMU tournament. Carolina will face Steven F. Austin in the morning (August 27) before taking on Pacific in her nightgown. The heels will compete against host SMU on Saturday afternoon (August 28th).
“We have been looking forward to this 2021 season for a very long time, returning to campus after a challenging 2020 for everyone. After the tournament at SMU, the Heels kick off the 2021 season at Carmichael Arena by welcoming Colorado State (September 3) and Wofford and East Carolina (September 4) to Carmichael Arena before heading to Motor City state Michigan State (September 10th) and Michigan (September 12th).
“This 2021 schedule will again strike a great balance between competitive teams from across the country and our region to give our team the opportunity to grow and achieve our goals. We believe that this year we have the depth in our squad to master the many challenges. “And train and compete at a high level both in the ACC and against a large number of non-conference opponents.”
End of the non-conference season in Carmichael with three teams from Tar Heel State, Elon (Sept. 14) in a midweek scramble, then hosted the Charlotte (Sept. 17) and Davidson (Sept. 18) 49ers. ).
“It starts with our first ACC opponent at home on September 24th – top 8 in Pittsburgh, and later in the season at home against ACC champion # 11 Louisville on November 5 and # 24 in Notre Dame.”
The ACC promotion begins with the Heels hosting Pitt (September 24th) and Virginia (September 26th). The Panthers are one of five teams the heels will compete against this season and have participated in the 2020/2021 NCAA Volleyball Championship.
North Carolina begins the ACC road play in the Sunshine State and ventures into Miami (October 1) before stopping in Florida State (October 3). Wake Forest (Oct 8) and Virginia Tech (Oct 10) visit Carmichael as the Heels travel to Boston College (Oct 15) and Syracuse (Oct 17).
In the back half of the ACC game, the Heels host the enemies of the state of NS (October 20th) and Duke (October 22nd) before stopping for Georgia Tech (October 29th) and Halloween in Clemson (October 31st) .
NCAA tournament participants Notre Dame (November 5th) and Louisville (November 7th) make their way to Chapel Hill.
The heels complete the road portion of the ACC game towards Virginia Tech (November 12) and Virginia (November 14), then return for the season against Miami (November 21) and the final home game against rivals to Chapel Hill back Herzog (November 26th).
The 2021 NCAA tournament begins December 2nd. The first four rounds will be played on campus as selected by the NCAA selection committee. In contrast to the 2020 tournament, which only consisted of 48 teams due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 tournament should return to the usual format of 64 qualifying teams. The NCAA semi-finals and championship will be played on December 16 and 18, 2021 at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.
