Celebrates the Completion of the New Innovative Urban Campus at the AT&T Discovery District
Dynamic landscape architecture combines technology, culture, entertainment, art and nature in five city blocks in downtown Dallas
Studio Outside, the lead landscape architect for AT & T’s newly developed downtown Dallas campus called AT&T Discovery District, is excited to celebrate the completion of this iconic property with lead architectural firm Gensler. More than just corporate headquarters, the modernized campus is an immersive experience that brings to life AT & T’s reinvention as a global leader in telecommunications, media and technology. The campus adds a whole new dimension to downtown Dallas, integrating AT & T’s corporate offices with incredible community amenities that are innovative, secure, walkable, and accessible.
The unique corporate campus is designed to provide a vibrant urban hub for AT&T employees, visitors, and the community to enjoy for daily life, special events, and large town gatherings. It includes the unhindered, pedestrian-only plaza with beautiful lawns and seating areas, mixed with sensory media experiences. The 10 meter high media wall surrounds the building and the 9 meter high globe offers interactive light and sound experiences that also serve as a stage for performances.
The campus spans five blocks and connects five different buildings that make up AT & T’s corporate offices. Since each building was built in different periods of time, it was important to design The Plaza so that everything is connected. The newly developed campus is intended to seamlessly merge a large number of buildings and rooms into a coherent district. The materials used in the plaza have been carefully selected to reflect the diversity of materials in each building and create a sense of connection, collaboration and togetherness.
Studio Outside’s approach was to unify the existing campus by developing a connecting open space defined by a unified granite paving system, naturalized plant materials, a well thought-out activated lighting plan and spectacular fountains.

We made sure to create different sized spaces to accommodate a range of outdoor gatherings and activities including demonstrations, concerts, art installations and daily collaboration and dining. ”
One of Studio Outside’s core competencies is working with local authorities in collaborative public-private partnerships to redesign public spaces and create new infrastructure solutions that benefit both the customer and the community at large.
“It was clear that because of all the unique elements we put into the project, we needed to work as closely as possible with the city of Dallas and all the key teams,” said Carolyn Perna, director of Studio Outside. “The city and all of our partners supported the vision very much. Our team helped direct collaboration across the city, with civil engineers, MEP engineers, designers and contractors to ensure we implemented creative solutions to make this complex project well done. ”
The campus also has a focus on sustainability, including state-of-the-art water and tree protection systems. It is SITES Silver Landscape, a comprehensive rating system for the award of innovative, sustainable landscapes.
