Central Market at Preston Royal Dallas reopens with bells & whistles
As promised, the Central Market Preston Royal will reopen its doors. The date: Wednesday June 30th, after a 20 month rebuild and restoration to repair the damage from the tornadoes that swept through North Dallas on October 20, 2019.
Not only is this great news for supermarket buyers, but it is also a milestone in the rebirth of the popular Preston Royal shopping mall.
Stephen Butt, president of the Central Market / HEB division, said in a statement that the Central Market and the entire Preston Royal community have grown.
“The silver lining here is that our Preston Royal store is stronger and better and we are ready to welcome our loyal customers back to give them the service and shopping experience they deserve,” says Butt.
The remodel gave them the ability to incorporate new features inside and outside the store, including the additional roadside pickup that allows customers to order online and pick them up at 10 roadside locations on the south side of the store.
The café area has been expanded and now has an additional seating area on the renovated mezzanine.
The original triptych by artist Cindy Holt, depicting the beauty of the surrounding neighborhoods, has also been reinstalled.
Other new functions are:
-
Self checkout register
-
larger product, seafood and flower departments
-
extended food, cheese and wine selection
-
larger sandwich bar
-
new / improved coffee bar
They also manage to preserve the building’s unique mid-century architecture, including arched windows and a curved roof facade that were originally for the building.
Many of the approximately 130 employees will return to the reopening.
The Central Market could begin restoration immediately, but most of the surrounding buildings had to be leveled due to structural damage.
To mark the reopening of the store, Central Market is giving a gift of $ 20,000 to Preston Hollow Elementary School and a gift of $ 20,000 to St. Mark’s School of Texas, which is adjacent to Central Market.
Past donations from Central Market include a $ 1 million donation to the Dallas Education Foundation to aid the Dallas ISD in aid of the rebuilding process; 50 new trees in the neighborhood; and $ 50,000 to the Dallas Education Foundation to rebuild libraries in three storm-damaged schools.
