CFI reorganizes business into five divisions

Trucking news and briefings for Wednesday, November 10, 2021:

CFI is divided into five divisions

CFI, a subsidiary of TFI International (CCJ Top 250, No. 7), announced that it has reorganized and expanded into five service categories – three asset-based services with Truckload, Dedicated and Temp-Control; and two non-asset services, Mexico and logistics.

To form the dedicated service, Transport America was renamed and integrated into CFI. This dedicated portion will continue to grow in January 2022 when the former UPS Freight Dedicated Division, currently operating under the brand name TForce Freight Dedicated, is also renamed CFI.

The establishment of the Temp-Control service began earlier this year when CFI expanded into refrigerated transport through the acquisition of MCT by TFI International.

“We’ve listened to our customers and reorganized our businesses to offer a broader range of services under a common brand, streamlined communication channels, and a more convenient and responsive customer experience,” said Greg Orr, President of CFI. “With a strong portfolio of asset-backed non-asset services and excellent coverage of North America, we believe that CFI today offers a world-class transportation and logistics experience that provides a significant competitive advantage.”

One of the two non-asset services, CFI Mexico, is a cross-border service based on partnerships with Mexican airlines for 36 years. CFI Mexico operates its own LTL network in Mexico and provides truck load transport in the country through a consortium of nearly 200 C-TPAT certified Mexican freight forwarding partners.

CFI Logistics is also a non-asset logistics service provider that offers full loads, part loads, port services, warehousing, express services, air freight forwarding, autogistics (specific services for tier 1 automotive suppliers and production plants). as well as other trucking services including cross-border Canada and Panama services.

North Dakota, Minnesota, Extends Drought-Related HOS Waiver

Emergency declarations waiving working hours for certain truck drivers in North Dakota and Minnesota have recently been renewed in each state. The exemptions in each state were initially granted due to extreme drought conditions affecting the state’s livestock farming.

The North Dakota waiver lasts through November 23, while the Minnesota waiver lasts until December 3.

The Regional Field Administrator of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s Western Service Center extended the North Dakota exemption for drivers carrying water and forage, including hay. According to the exemption, more than 90% of the state is in severe drought conditions, which has a significant impact on maintaining adequate water and forage supplies.

The governor of Minnesota, Tim Walz, renewed the declaration of his state that had been in force since July. Over 35% of the state is still in severe or extreme drought, according to Waiver. In Minnesota, drivers transporting hay, forage, and complementary feeds including, but not limited to, corn silage, distilled grains, and beet pulp are eligible for waiver.
