Chefs Contribute Recipes for Ronald McDonald House Fundraiser – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

The Ronald McDonald House in Dallas is a home for sick and injured children and their families traveling to North Texas for medical care. The pandemic has made it more expensive to provide services and a little more difficult to raise funds.

This year, the Ronald McDonald House of Dallas is selling cookbooks in place of its annual gala event. “Come to the Table” offers 40 recipes from 40 local chefs.

“I think feeding people is part of showing love and feeding people,” said Jill Cumnock, CEO of Ronald McDonald House of Dallas. “It just made sense to make a cookbook because it’s a big part of what we do here at the Ronald McDonald House.”

“Any way you can give back, especially through food, is just a ‘yes what you need’ to me,” said Jennie Kelley. Kelley is the owner and creator of Frank Underground and Better Half Pop Up.

Kelley and her fiancé Brandon Moore both contributed to the cookbook. Moore is Executive Chef at Ocean Prime in Dallas. Kelley’s recipe is for Lobster Mac ‘n Cheese, Moore’s recipe is’ Grandmother Pie’, a Detroit-style pizza.

“The pizza recipe is something anyone can help with,” said Moore. “Anyone can reach into it and have a little fun with it.”

Like the traditional donation gala, the cookbook aims to bring people together around food … in a different way.

“If you cook with love, people like it,” said Kelley. “And I think anything that comes from a loving place is attracted to people.”

“You know, it’s hard to argue with someone when your mouth is full of food,” said Moore. “So it’s hard to be shared, isn’t it?”

Food for thought.
