Construction tops out on Dallas Design District high-rise

Construction work on a new residential tower northwest of downtown Dallas has peaked.

The 28-story Urby skyscraper is being built in the Design District of Dallas near Stemmons Freeway and Oak Lawn Avenue.

The $ 98 million luxury apartment building with 383 units is a project by New Jersey-based real estate developer Urby. It is the first of three residential towers planned on the 4 acre site overlooking Turtle Creek.

The project is opposite the new Virgin Hotel. Since the beginning of this year construction has been going on with the general contractor Moss Construction.

“The Urby is a wonderful addition to the Design District with its sleek and contemporary design,” said Josh Carson, Moss vice president and project manager. “Given the challenges our team faced, we are delighted to have reached this milestone on time.

“The groundbreaking for the project took place in February 2021, but only a few weeks later the region experienced a historic winter storm with freezing temperatures that temporarily interrupted our ability to work.”

The first apartments are to be completed in the Urby Tower at the end of 2022. The building was designed by Amsterdam architect Concrete and Dallas’ 5G Studio Collaborative.

In addition to the rental units, the project includes a 5,000 square meter fitness center, a café on the ground floor, an “outdoor forest garden”, a dog run and a nine-story parking garage.
