Could you survive a zombie apocalypse? A new study ranks cities by their zombie preparedness
A new study has ranked the best and worst cities in America for surviving a zombie apocalypse.
In Texas, Frisco is the best place to survive, ranking 22nd. Only three other Texas cities – Plano, Corpus Christi and Austin – ranked in the top 100, ranking 75th, 79th and 96th respectively.
LawnLove – a landscaping company that hires contract authors to conduct similar studies on public data – used winking recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as a guideline for its methodology.
The study analyzed 23 key indicators of the US’s 200 largest cities, divided into six categories:
- Public health: Proportion of the population in good health, exercise rate and proportion of the population who went jogging in the past year
- Vulnerability: natural hazard index, number of military bases and hospitals per capita
- Infrastructure: Average living space, proportion of available apartments with a cellar or bunker, proportion of apartments with complete kitchen equipment, proportion of apartments with complete sanitary facilities and network-independent lifestyle-friendliness
- Supply: supermarkets, pharmacies, hardware stores and shopping centers per 100,000 living inhabitants
- Protection: Hunting equipment stores, outdoor equipment stores, and arms and ammunition stores per 100,000 living residents
- Mobility: bicycle-friendliness, hiking-friendliness, number of campsites, availability of ports and availability of ships
Frisco has been ranked as the most likely place to survive in the state, largely due to its high rank in the public health field at # 6.
The study suggests that larger Texas cities are not the place to be if you’re trying to save yourself from zombies, with Dallas and Fort Worth taking numbers 165 and 166, respectively, and Houston, San Antonio, and El Paso taking number 148. 169 or 177.
