COVID-19 Bulletin (09/29/21) – D Magazine
Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins reported A total of 2,292 new COVID cases and 15 deaths over three days on Tuesday.
According to Steve Love, CEO of DFW Hospital Council, COVID-19 hospital stays in North Texas continue to decline. There are 2,601 hospitalized patients in regional facilities, representing 17.51 percent of bed capacity. There are 63 ICU beds available in North Texas.
DFW-based American Airlines and Southwest Airlines pilots say a COVID-19 vaccine mandate could lead to shortages on vacation flights. The Dallas Morning News reports that the Allied Pilots Association, which represents 15,000 pilots for Fort Worth-based American Airlines, sent a letter to Congress warning that airlines could have “mass layoffs of unvaccinated pilots.”
Unvaccinated patients spurred a surge in recent COVID-19 deaths this summer. More than 9,000 Texans died of COVID-19 in August and September, and nearly 40 percent of them are under 60 years old, Texas Tribune reports.
