Dallas’ Côtes du Coeur Raises a Record-Breaking $5.4 Million
Dallas businessmen and philanthropists raised their bids last weekend during the 30th annual Côtes du Coeur event at the Omni Dallas. The black tie affair brought in a record-breaking US $ 5.4 million – and the trend is rising – for the American Heart Association.
Fittingly, the live auction item Chef Dinner for Every Season received the highest bid at $ 85,000. Donated by chefs Richard Chamberlain, Kent Rathbun, John Tesar, Eric Dreyer and My Private Dinner, the bidder went away with a party for 10 each season to dine with each chef in their restaurants. Yes, wine pairings are included!
Adorned with jeweled dresses and pretty tuxedos – as well as face masks and vaccination cards – guests at the sold-out fundraiser included Anne Chow, CEO of AT&T Business; Mark Sanders, President and CEO of Caliber Collision Centers; and Kelly Pfeil, former PepsiCo manager and founder of ArrowInno. The fundraiser was sponsored by Toyota, Paragon Healthcare, Caliber, and Unisys.
“This year’s Côtes du Coeur was amazing in many ways,” said Chris LaTurno, senior vice president of development for the Dallas Division. “In a time of uncertainty, our sponsors, donors, and volunteers continue to work tirelessly for the health and well-being of communities in North Texas and across the country.”
Instead of food stations, this year guests were able to enjoy a 6-course meal while sitting down and enjoying wine pairs from 27 of the most renowned wineries in the country. Two of our favorite wines are a 2018 Walt Sonoma Coast Chardonnay and Zeitgeist Cabernet Sauvignon.
Every year, Côtes du Coeur has honored an excellent winery as a Tête du Cuvée prize winner, which goes to Dr. Donald Olson from Torii Mor Winery left. Olson founded the Oregon winery in 1993 as a tribute to his late son Leif. Over the years, Torii Mor has grown into an ultra-premium manufacturer of Pinot Noir with an annual production of 15,000 boxes.
The evening’s dinner was led by Chef Richard Chamberlain of Chamberlain’s Steak & Fish. Chamberlain provided a flavorful Korean marinated local wagyu that was served with Asian noodles.
Monarch’s Eric Dreyer ended dinner with a salty, barolo-braised short rob served with mascarpone, polenta, and Espelette onions.

Other chefs at the event were Chef Kent Rathbun (imoto); John Tesar (knife); Dean Fearing (the restaurant of fear); Dan Landsberg (Ellie’s Restaurant in the HALL Arts Hotel); Gerard Thompson (Rough Creek Lodge & Resort); Janice Provost (Parigi); and Eric Dreyer (Monarch Restaurants Dallas). Dreyer ended dinner with a meltingly tender Barolo braised short rob, served with mascarpone, polenta, and espelette onions.
During the course of the evening, guests also had the opportunity to hear the inspiring story of Open Your Heart survivor Heather L. VacLav and to give a face to cardiovascular diseases. The Open Your Heart campaign raised more than $ 1.45 million. The largest AHA fundraiser in the country, Côtes du Coeur has drawn more than 25,000 visitors and raised more than $ 50 million since its inception.
AT&T hosted an after party where the Emerald City Allstars helped attendees dance away the calories of the sumptuous feast while enjoying flavorful popcorn and cotton candy from Girls Who Twirl Cotton Candy.

Bryan’s House will also honor recipients of the 2020 and 2021 Wisdom’s Hope Awards, presented to community leaders for their contributions to Bryan’s House and the city of Dallas. Recipients include Temple Emanu-El Dallas; Lynn Fisher of the Rosewood Foundation; Rust E. Reid of Thompson & Knight; Philanthropists Peggy Dear and Sarah Losinger; Ursuline Academy, University of Texas at Dallas; Brave living; and Studio Movie Grill.
The exhibit features 20 of the nearly 75 regional and national artists who donated their talent to DCAC’s annual (and sold-out) Art For Advocacy event, which raises money and awareness to end child abuse in Dallas over the next month.
Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center raises awareness of child abuse through various works of art in a new exhibition at the NorthPark Center. Located on the first floor between Neiman Marcus and Dilliard’s, the exhibition features 20 of the nearly 75 regional and national artists who donated their talents to DCAC’s annual (and sold-out) Art For Advocacy event over the next month who donated money and attention to Ending Child Abuse in Dallas.
Artists featured in the exhibition at NorthPark Center include William Atkinson, Brandon Boyd, Sedrick Huckaby, Carmen Menza, Mary Vernon, Cassandra Black, Linda Blackburn, Dennis Blagg, Megan Brooks, Natalie Christensen, Camilla Cowan, Maxine Helfman, Leslie Lanzotti, Treg Miller, Favio Moreno, Pamela Nelson, Abi Salami, Allison V. Smith, Keer Tanchak and Reinhard Ziegler.

Next month, the philanthropists Barbara Bigham and Ramona Jones will be honored at Kidney Texas’ The runway report lunch and the fashion show. Bigham receives the Sue Goodnight Service Award and Jones the Community Award at the event.
The Runway Report celebrates its 22nd anniversary and is presented by the late Helga Feldman with Thompson Coe partner David Taylor and his wife Natalie as honorary chairmen. Both Natalie and David have been long-time supporters of KidneyTexas. The event will take place on September 21st and will begin at 11am with a mimosa reception, followed by a program and formal floor-level fashion presentation featuring fashion from sponsor TOOTSIES (produced by Jan Strimple).
Beneficiaries include the Children’s Medical Center Foundation, Camp Reynal, the Texas Health Resources Foundation, the Southwest Transplant Alliance, and the Parkland Health and Hospital Foundation.
