Dallas County reports 1,000 new coronavirus cases, 21 COVID-19 deaths

Dallas County reported 21 more COVID-19 deaths and 1,000 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday.

Of the new cases, 816 were confirmed and 184 probable. The numbers bring the county’s total cases to 372,656, including 317,774 confirmed and 54,882 probable. The death toll is 4,474.

The average number of new daily cases in the county over the past two weeks is 1,382. For the previous 14-day period, the average was 1,228.

The county reported that 933 people were hospitalized with the virus.

Hospital stays could begin to plateau in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, according to DFW Hospital Council. In the 19-county area that includes Dallas-Fort Worth, approximately 3,500 patients with COVID-19 have been hospitalized daily and as case numbers decline, hospital admissions for the disease are expected to decline, the chairman and chairman said President of the Council, Steve Love, on Tuesday.

“Local medical leaders are cautiously optimistic that new cases and hospitalizations in our area will decline,” Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins said in a written statement. “It is important that we continue the mitigation measures we have taken until more people can be vaccinated.”

Dallas County is also preparing to deliver COVID-19 booster syringes to eligible individuals. President Joe Biden previously announced that booster vaccinations would be available on September 20, but recommendations and regulatory approvals are still in the air.

According to the state, 1,525,769 people in Dallas County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 1,284,163 – 58.9% of the county’s population 12 and older – are fully vaccinated.

Texas

The state of Texas reported 25,285 more coronavirus cases on Wednesday, including 20,201 confirmed cases and 4,253 probable cases. 411 COVID-19 deaths were also reported, bringing the nationwide number to 59,608.

The state’s total number of cases is now 3,864,455, including 3,236,353 confirmed and 628,102 probable.

A total of 12,817 people are being hospitalized in Texas with COVID-19, including 3,538 in northern Texas.

According to the state, 16,883,605 people in Texas have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine while 14,279,021 – 59.3% of the state’s population 12 and older – are fully vaccinated.

Tarrant county

Tarrant County reported 20 deaths and 1,430 cases on Wednesday.

Of the new cases, 1,056 were confirmed and 374 were likely. The numbers bring the county’s total cases to 329,527, including 274,252 confirmed and 55,275 likely. The death toll is 4,047.

The county reported that 1,179 people were hospitalized with the virus.

According to the state, 1,136,997 people in Tarrant County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 986,659 – 56.7% of the county’s population 12 and older – are fully vaccinated.

A delay in reporting data and a potential difference in the types of tests reported to the state could add dramatic discrepancies in case numbers and cause confusion among parents in Texas.

Collin County

The state added six deaths and 643 cases to Collin County’s total on Wednesday.

Of the new cases, 561 were confirmed and 82 probable. The numbers bring the total number of cases in the county to 118,827, including 97,406 confirmed and 21,421 probable. The death toll is 954.

The county reported that 482 people were hospitalized with the virus.

According to the state, 671,417 people in Collin County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 592,115 – 68.4% of the county’s population 12 and older – are fully vaccinated.

Denton County

Denton County reported no new deaths and 547 cases on Wednesday.

The numbers bring the total number of cases in the county to 95,222, including 69,442 confirmed and 25,780 probable. The death toll is 671.

The county reported that 195 people were hospitalized with the virus.

According to the state, 525,813 people in Denton County have received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, while 468,789 – 62.5% of the county’s population 12 and older – are fully vaccinated.

Other counties

The Texas Department of State Health Services has provided coverage for these other North Texas counties. In some counties, new data may not be reported every day.

The latest numbers are:

  • Rockwall County: 15,750 cases (12,350 confirmed and 3,400 likely), 187 deaths.
  • Kaufman County: 21,507 cases (17,461 confirmed and 4,046 likely), 332 deaths.
  • Ellis County: 29,718 cases (23,861 confirmed and 5,857 likely), 677 deaths.
  • Johnson County: 24,836 cases (20,558 confirmed and 4,278 likely), 438 deaths.
