Dallas County reports 3,270 coronavirus cases in 3-day total

Dallas County reported five more COVID-19 deaths and 3,270 new coronavirus cases in total on Tuesday, including the weekend.

District Judge Clay Jenkins said in a written statement that the prevalence of the more contagious Delta variant, coupled with stagnating vaccination rates, had “turned things very seriously”.

“COVID-19 is spreading out of control in Dallas County, our North Texas region, the state of Texas and much of the nation,” he said. “The Delta version is really a game changer.”

A forecast released Monday by UTSouthwestern Medical Center estimates that the rate of new cases and hospital admissions in Dallas County will continue to accelerate, with the county reaching more than 2,000 cases per day and more than 1,500 hospital patients by the end of August.
