According to a press release, the McPlant contains a plant-based patty developed jointly with Beyond Meat, created exclusively for McDonald’s and made from plant-based ingredients such as peas, rice and potatoes.
The patty is served on a sesame bun with tomato, lettuce, pickles, onions, mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard and a slice of American cheese.
“It has the iconic taste of a McDonald’s burger because it is,” the press release said.
McDonald’s has already launched The McPlant in foreign markets this year, including Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, Austria and most recently the UK
The release states that part of the restricted release is due to figuring out how the offering affects operations. It also reassures customers that they will continue to serve the Big Mac and Quarter Pounder. Don’t worry, the vegans won’t take over! (Yet.)
The price will be in the same order of magnitude as McDonald’s other burgers, at least during this test phase.
McDonald’s and Beyond Meat entered into a three-year partnership in February. Arch-rival Burger King added Impossible Whopper to its menu more than two years ago.
* Other exclusive things that happen in Dallas include speakeasy bars and two rare slices of pizza.
