Dallas’ landmark Maple Terrace will anchor mixed-use project
Developer Hines is almost ready to pull the covers for his newest project in Dallas – the redesign of the iconic Maple Terrace in Uptown.
The Houston-based developer bought the nearly hundred-year-old Maple Terrace apartment building on Maple Avenue near Turtle Creek in January 2020.
The seven-story Mediterranean-style building was one of the first luxury high-rises to be built in the area north of downtown Dallas.
Maple Terrace was designed by well-known British architect Alfred Bossom, who was also the architect of the Magnolia Building in downtown Dallas.
The building was originally touted as the first “million dollar apartment building” in Dallas. Over the decades, it has been home to residents such as Greer Garson, Shirley MacLaine, Zsa Zsa Gabor, and Judy Garland.
Previously, developers suggested building a larger residential tower on the site around the 1925 building.
Last year, Hines submitted plans to the state that show the project will include a 21-story residential building with 345 units.
According to the planning documents, the historic house will be converted into offices.
A new restaurant, fitness center and other facilities are also planned as part of the mixed-use project.
Hines is expected to release details of his plans for Maple Terrace this week.
The developer has just completed its 16-story Stack office and retail building in the Deep Ellum neighborhood of Dallas, east of downtown. And Hines is completing the construction of his 40-story Victor residential tower in Victory Park.
