Dallas natives opening up a BBQ restaurant on Chadbourne St.
As downtown expansion continues, one restaurant owner saw Chadbourne Street as the perfect place to start his business
SAN ANGELO, Texas – After two years of preparation, Dallas-based Blake Woodson and Ben Wolf are opening their barbecue restaurant on historic Chadbourne Street.
Both Woodson and Wolf found their passion in the smoked barbecue and over two years later the Southern Smoke BBQ will finally open in a few days.
While San Angelo isn’t where the owners were born or raised, Woodson said when he landed in Concho Valley it felt like home.
“I didn’t choose San Angelo, but San Angelo chose me. With the Plateau Brewing partnership and the support of this community, I don’t think we can do anything but be successful, ”said Woodson.
Chadbourne Street in San Angelo is historic, and some say that the traffic on the street has decreased for a number of years. But with recent construction nearing completion and possible expansion of historic downtown, says Walt Koeing, CEO of the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce, a store like the Smokehouse is the perfect addition to Chadbourne Street.
“We have the largest downtown membership in our 100-year history. We are very excited to see the great developments and the infrastructure on this road looks really beautiful. We hope this is a continuation of the opening up of local businesses on Chadbourne Street, ”said Koeing.
As Woodson pondered his path to Opening Day, he shared his appreciation for the myriad business owners in the area who were happy to help and provide advice whenever he needed it.
“It’s this small town community that I’ve always wanted, and the people who surround me with positive words and advice have even helped me grow as a business owner. I’m so happy to be here and ready to work this weekend. “
Southern Smoke BBQ opens at 12pm on Saturday 18th September at 215 S. Chadbourne St.
