Dallas Restaurant Makes Esquire’s “Best New Restaurants” List For 2021
One restaurant in Dallas makes Esquire’s annual list of 40 of the best new restaurants in America for 2021.
Chef Tiffany Derry’s Roots Southern Table in Farmers Branch, TX is among the 4 Texan restaurants on the Esquire’s list of 40 Best New Restaurants. Roots Southern Table has had a good year when it comes to awards. Aside from the Esquire list, Roots was also named one of the “50 Liveliest, Tastiest Restaurants in 2021” by the New York Times. It took Derry 7 years to start her restaurant business and is proud of the positive news it has received since it opened. She points out that Roots is a dedication to some of her family’s well-kept dishes. Derry was a Top Chef candidate in 2010.
Roots focuses on southern cuisine and is known for gumbo, cornbread, shrimp and grits, and fried chicken. Esquire praises Roots’ approach to Mediterranean food, saying that “Roots is convincing evidence that southern black cuisine from the Creole coast incorporates elements of French, Spanish, African and Caribbean traditions, is alchemical, as well as forced migrations and other”. Roots is one of the 4 Texan restaurants on the list, along with Hestia in Austin and March and Degustin in Houston.
So if you find yourself in Dallas and craving some authentic Southern cuisine, make a reservation at this up and coming Southern eatery!
