1. Uncle Julio’s president was found dead in a downtown Dallas hotel. Harper Caron, who was President of Uncle Julio’s Tex-Mex chain in Dallas, died in a hotel in downtown Dallas; he was 45. Police officers were called to Statler Dallas on Saturday, August 7th, where they found Caron at around 5 a.m. At the time of going to press, the cause of death had not yet been determined.
2. 4 Charming Hill Country Locations Named Best Small Towns in Texas by Travel + Leisure. Travel + Leisure magazine named four Hill Country communities one of the top eight small towns in Texas. In a list published on July 28, magazine praised Bandera, Dripping Springs, Johnson City, and Wimberley, and offered vignettes for Hill Country cities.
3. Minigolf concept for adults in celebrity ties premieres in Dallas. Dallas-based Drive Shack is introducing a new golfing experience with the opening of its first location in the Dallas area: Puttery, an adult social mini-golf experience that opens at Grandscape in The Colony in late August.
4. The acclaimed candy store in Dallas breaks open after the decimation of the Range Rover crash. A renowned bakery in Oak Cliff has been uprooted: The Rush Patisserie, which has been baking impeccable croissants, pies, cakes and pastries in the Bishop Arts district since 2009, has its business on Eldorado Ave. 120 in the same building as Spiral Diner closed. The closure was triggered by an unusual accident in early May that decimated the store.
