When restaurants across the city are hiring, it’s time to think outside the box.

“We start at $ 15 an hour. How much are you making in your job right now? ”Colby Ledet, a manager at the national fast food chain Raising Cane’s, asked a customer.

Raising Cane employees approach customers in their dining room and drive-through in Naperville, Illinois, ask them to apply, and even hand out We’re Hiring cards.

Ledet is one of approximately 100 Dallas-based employees who have been temporarily relocated to help with recruiting. He’s on corporate staff, but hopped behind the till a few weeks ago so the Naperville dining room could stay open on a Friday night.

“We are so understaffed that we cannot open the dining room in most areas, just drive through or have to close earlier than our normal business hours,” said Ledet.

Raising Cane’s said they have hired about 4,000 people nationwide since early October and are still looking to hire about 6,000 more.

You are not alone. Just down the street, Panera Bread is encouraging people to write to them about job offers.

This is also a method that raising cane uses.

Lizette Torres is a beauty student who just started at Raising Cane’s this week.

“My girlfriend works here, so she told me about the job because I needed a job and I said, ‘I need a reliable job. I need something consistent, ‘”she said.

“We’re out here doing almost anything we can think of,” Ledet said of the fast food chain’s recruiting efforts.
