Nordic airline Finnair plans to fly from DFW International Airport to Helsinki in February, the second new international airline to announce its service to North Texas in a week.

The DFW route to Helsinki-Vantaa Airport is scheduled to begin on February 6 and will offer round-trip flights four days a week on Thursday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. The journey takes more than 10 hours each way, with a slightly shorter flight time on the Helsinki-DFW route.

It is the first time Finnair has regularly operated scheduled flights to DFW Airport, part of an expansion that also includes more flights from its hub in Helsinki to Asia.

Iberia Airlines is planning a new connection from Spain to DFW Airport in 2022

Iberia Airlines plans to fly from its home country Spain to DFW International Airport next year, the CEO of the airline’s parent company said on Friday. Luis Gallego, CEO of the International Airlines Group, announced the new route, scheduled to go into service next summer, on the company’s third quarter conference call. Flights will likely come from Madrid, its largest base, but could also go to Barcelona, which has no direct connection to DFW Airport.

Finnair already flies to US destinations Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and Miami and also plans to operate some flights from these destinations to Stockholm, Sweden this winter.

“As international travel demand increases, Finnair is pleased to provide our customers with the start of our Dallas Fort Worth to Helsinki route,” said Caroline Borawski, General Manager North America at Finnair. “The additional access to Europe, Scandinavia, the Baltic States and beyond meets both essential and ambitious travel needs and shows the important investments and commitment of Finnair in North America.”

Helsinki, a port city on the Baltic Sea, is a ferry ride from Tallinn in Estonia or the former Russian capital St. Petersburg. Finland, with spectacular views of the Northern Lights in winter, claims to have the happiest people in the world and also claims to be the home of Santa Claus.

In addition to the new flights via DFW, Finnair is now offering direct flights to Helsinki from Chicago, Los Angeles and New York. During the winter season, Finnair also flies to Stockholm, Sweden from Los Angeles, New York and Miami.

“We are excited about this new service. It strengthens DFW Airport’s European route options for our customers and solidifies our commitment to continued growth on an international level, ”said John Ackerman, Executive Vice President of Global Strategy and Development at DFW Airport.

Finnair, which uses Airbus aircraft for its long-haul flights, plans to use its Airbus A350-900 for DFW flights, according to its website.

Last week, the Spanish airline Iberia Airlines announced that it would be flying to DFW International Airport next summer. While it hasn’t yet announced which Spanish destination it will fly to from North Texas, it will likely connect to its hub in Madrid or Barcelona on Spain’s eastern Mediterranean coast.

Finnair is planning the new route in collaboration with its OneWorld Alliance partner American Airlines and Atlantic Joint Business, another partnership with American Airlines, British Airways and Iberia.

In addition to popular routes such as London Heathrow, Paris and Madrid with American Airlines and their operational partners, the Finland flights will offer DFW passengers another connection point in Europe.

The DFW news also came when Finnair announced new flights to Asian destinations in South Korea and Japan.

Finnair serves around 130 destinations worldwide, including around 100 in Europe. The Finnish government is the majority owner of Finnair shares, making Finnair the flagship airline in the country.
