DFW culinary superstars and food fans toast 2021 Tastemaker Awards
It was the very best food and drink in the world Dallas-Fort Worth Tastemaker Awards 2021, CultureMaps Celebration of the Best Restaurants, Bars, and Culinary Masters held on August 19th at the Fashion Industry Gallery in downtown Dallas.
Dozens of bars and restaurants served spectacular tastes in a hedonistic feast. Part of the proceeds went to benefit Food rescue harvest projectfighting food insecurity in Dallas. Returning from a purely virtual edition in 2020, the annual event turned out to be the most delicious yet.
Queues quickly formed for small plates and samples from some of Dallas-Fort Worth’s most popular and influential restaurants. Lively dishes included smoked pheasant and goat cheese groats from Backyard in the Hotel Drover; Garlic-ginger steak with chilli-orange noodles from Cafe Modern; Mendocino farms “Not So Fried” Chicken Sandwiches; Wagyu slide from Jaxon Texas Kitchen & Beer Garden; and slipper lobster “pancakes” from St. Anna.
Those with a sweet tooth are delighted Bobbers Burger Dole Whip vegan soft serve cups and petite but delicious Route 66 pecan pies in a personal size from Haywire.
Cooks out Omni Dallas the most Instagram-suitable plate of the night with its colorful cheese ball “towers” – a dried date with blue cheese mousse, red grapes with boursin and pistachios and heirloom cherry tomatoes with herb goat cheese mousse – piled high on a skewer for easy photography and Snacking.
VIP ticket holders could easily arrive at the valet park early and mingle in a lounge just for them. Beer drinkers presented it in the beer garden by. made comfortable Deep Ellum Brewing Company.
The main bar poured characteristic cocktails with the sponsors’ spirits Master Dobel Tequila and Stranahan’s single malt whiskey. A fan favorite was the Summer Garden, which was prepared with Boodles Rhubarb & Strawberry Gin, fresh watermelon and lime juices and FeverTree Pink Grapefruit Soda. The guests stepped in Top chico Drinking station.
But this party wasn’t just a frenzy; we had several awards to hand over. Celebrity presenter, comedian CJ Starr, announced winners in 14 categories of restaurants and bars across Dallas-Fort Worth. They were selected by a jury made up of previous winners, food and beverage industry experts and CultureMap editors: Chas Martin, Toby Archibald, Gavin Secchi, Diana Zamora, Josh Hendrix, Jacob Tindall, Lisa Strupp, Marc Ramirez, Kim Pham, Fabian Hernandez, Jamil Bata, Vu Ly, Stephan Courseau, Janice Provost, Alex Gonzalez, Sarah Hooton, Markus Kypreos, Mike Hoque, Malcolm Mayhew, Celestina Blok, Samantha Calimbahin, Eric Griffey, Connie Bally, Henry Abuto, Stephanie Merry, and Teresa Gubbins.
One of the biggest awards of the evening was Best New Restaurant voted by CultureMap readers. The winners were The wave in Fort Worth and monarch in Dallas. They were greeted with one of the warmest cheers of the evening.
The winners received beautiful glass trophies on stage and posed for pictures; Some groups even streamed the presentation live on social media for their fans to watch at home.
Two special awards were given to people who made a major contribution to the local food and beverage scene during the pandemic. they went to the cook Jon Bonnell (Waters, Bonnell’s) in Fort Worth and Meadors Ozarow (Empire Baking) in Dallas.
Between feasting and partying, the guests took Insta-worthy photos in the photo booth and bought raffle tickets for the benefit of the Harvest Project Food Rescue. A DJ provided lively beats all night.
