Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts is likely to miss the band’s upcoming US tour so he can recover from an unspecified medical procedure.

A spokesman for the musician said the process was “completely successful” but Watts needed time to recover. The Stones will continue their No Filter Tour with a stadium show in St. Louis on September 26th.

“With rehearsals starting in a couple of weeks, it’s very disappointing to say the least, but it’s also fair to say that no one saw this coming,” a Watts spokesman said in a statement.

Watts, 80, said in a statement that he did not want his recovery further delaying the tour, which is set to visit several U.S. cities including Dallas, Atlanta, Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

“For once, my timing was a little off. I’m working hard to get fully fit, but today, on the advice of the experts, I accepted that it would take a while, ”said Watts.

Watts successfully underwent treatment for throat cancer in 2004. He will be replaced by the substitute Steve Jordan, who has played with Keith Richards for years.
