FEED INVERCLYDE: Join the new Tele and Dallas Carpets campaign to restock Inverclyde Foodbank

THE Tele is helping families across Inverclyde who are struggling to bring food to the table with a new campaign this summer.

We ask our readers, local businesses and communities to come together and donate much-needed groceries for our neighbors, friends or families who are going through difficult times.

Last year alone, around 1,000 young people were fed through the efforts of the Inverclyde Foodbank team, which sends hundreds of packages every week to men, women and children in dire need.

Now we are teaming up with the frontline anti-poverty charity to replenish their shelves and make sure there is enough food to circulate in the coming months.

Since its inception in 2012, the volunteers have helped feed and clothe more than 30,000 local people.

Now we’re ready to have our own bag – sponsored by Dallas Carpets – mailed in Inverclyde’s favorite newspaper for readers to fill out and give to us or the charity itself.

Andrew McAlees, pictured, of Hope Community Church, which leads the facility, said, “This is an incredible gesture from the Greenock Telegraph and Dallas and we are thrilled to have this support. We are so grateful for all the help we are receiving. ”The local community and I am sure they will fight for us again.

“It was a very difficult year and we are really seeing an increase in demand with the holidays.”

The church operates the food bank from its base on West Blackhall Street as part of its i58 project, which also includes school uniforms, baby banks, and a debt relief charity.

Volunteer and Long-Term Support Lorella Sutherland, mother of two and Tesco Community Champion, has seen firsthand the difference the charity makes.

She said, “It’s horrible that we need a food bank these days. But there is hunger and the work they do is incredible. When I help it can be very emotional and very annoying. People don’t know what” it is as if you cannot afford to eat your family.

“I always remind people that this can happen to absolutely anyone, we can all get into difficult times.”

Tele Sales Manager Jolene McGee said, “We understand the fantastic work the Foodbank is doing for the local community and we are thrilled to be committed to such a rewarding cause.

“We would like to thank Dallas Carpets for their sponsorship and continued support.”

Editor Brian Hossack said, “This is a very important campaign and I am sure the Inverclyde public will follow suit in a moment.”

The grocery bags will be included in every Tele on August 4th. Readers just need to fill it in and hand it in directly to the charity or drop it off at the public counter of the Greenock Telegraph.
