Four Bucs now on COVID-19 list

Turns out Ryan Succop was just the beginning of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers players to make the Reserve / COVID-19 list. It was revealed early Saturday afternoon that star defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh was also on the list and not traveling with the team to face the Houston Texans.

Buc’s defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh did not travel to Houston with the team and is placed on the Reserve / COVID-19 list. He is the fourth Bucs player to make the list this week. All it needs to return is no symptoms and two negative tests every 24 hours.

The Athletic’s Greg Auman report was later confirmed by ESPN’s Jenna Laine.

Suh’s addition now means the team will hold its final dress rehearsal for its 2021 campaign without its initial defensive lineman, kicker, and two dependable members of its offensive line rotation.

Succop was the first to land on the list after having dinner with former Titans team members after doing exercises with his former team.

Then Earl Watford, a seasoned offensive lineman, landed on the list the same day that younger line member Nick Leverett landed on COVID logs.

What is supposed to be the most comprehensive look at top Bucs contributors for 2021 is now more of a lesson on what could happen in the context of the ongoing procedures to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic.

Good news for Tampa Bay, of course, is that all four players on the list have ample time to meet protocol requirements and get back to the team before their September 9 opener against the Dallas Cowboys.

Instead of Suh, Auman later speculated on Twitter that Rakeem Nunez-Roches, commonly referred to as “Nacho”, would likely begin. Nacho, who puts William Gholston and Vita Vea on the defensive as starters, means Steve McLendon and Patrick O’Connor are likely to have longer seasons as well.

If any player sees a silver lining on this news, it is young defensive lineman Khalil Davis, who now has more opportunities on Saturday night to show Todd Bowles that he needs to keep him in the active squad.
