Funky Town Fridge Feeding Fort Worth Communities – CBS Dallas / Fort Worth
FORT VALUE (CBSDFW.COM) – As pandemic restrictions continue to ease, many families are still struggling to get food on the table. But a Fort Worth woman with initiative and passion decided to do something about it and give her Funky Town roommates some funky fridges for free.
“Funky Town needed a fridge!” Kendra Richardson explains.

Richardson’s passionate venture to give Fort Worth neighborhoods access to free healthy groceries quickly expanded from one refrigerator to three. It now has Funky Town Fridge locations in the Como, Southside, and Poly neighborhoods of Fort Worth.
“I come from these churches. I love these communities. I love these people, ”says Richardson. “I want them to thrive.”
Every location and funky refrigerator has a common purpose: to feed an unconditional community.
“Food is available to the community around the clock,” explains Richardson. “If someone is hungry, or maybe needs something to eat, or just wants to go shopping and get free purchases, they can come here and take whatever they need – without asking any questions.”
A unique concept for a communal refrigerator that worked from day one.

“There was a woman walking on the sidewalk and I just walked up to her and said, ‘Hey! There is a communal fridge here and there is free food and you can get some food whenever you want to come, ‘”recalls Richardson.
“And she said, ‘What?’ and I said to her, ‘come on, come on and check it out’ and we brought her here where we had a couple of bags and we filled her with shopping and she took some things and she left. “
Richardson says it was clear from her first client that he went not just with groceries but with a grateful heart.
“She told us she was fine,” says Richardson. “So many people are affected (from the refrigerators) and many people are now volunteering because they are affected.” Https://www.funkytownfridge.org/getinvolved
