H-E-B’s Quest for Texas Best gives Dallas macaron maker $25,000 top prize in a field that included a San Antonio coffee truck

Since 2014, the San Antonio-based food giant HEB has given food and beverage entrepreneurs a chance to win shelf space and prize money with its “Quest for Texas Best” competition, including a San Antonio coffee truck.

Savor Pâtisserie of Dallas won the $ 25,000 grand prize for macarons in flavors ranging from vanilla to pistachio to biscuits and cream. First place and $ 20,000 went to 2F Akaushi Beef in Santa Elena, South Texas for Texas Wagyu Ground Beef.

Austin’s Bhoomi Enhanced Sugar Cane Water won second place and $ 15,000, while Dallas’s Howdy Homemade Ice Cream’s Dr Pepper Chocolate Chip Ice Cream won third place and $ 10,000.

Each winner will also be considered for placement on the shelves of HEB stores.

San Antonio entrepreneur Andrea Ley of the mobile coffee company Olla Express Cafe was the city’s only under 20 finalist, making the list for Raw Piloncillo Syrup, a natural sweetener with fewer calories than sugar, honey or molasses. The finalists were selected from more than 1,200 food and drink entries from across the state.
